Re earplugs (may be too late, sorry) these are a bit pricey but good... EarPeace Music PRO High Fidelity... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B099X8NCGC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_shareI used them at Download this year, didn't wake up with any ringing ears so that's a win for me. I bought the more expensive version and they didn't block too many of the highs, which is why I haven't worn any previously.

Seems to be quite a few people on here trying to get Coldplay tickets for their 'Kids'... It okay to admit you have zero music taste and are quite happy to pay shitloads of money to watch absolute MOR crap and then complain about ticket pricing all the time.
The music scene is fine if you want to watch great bands/artists with decent followings.

I quite liked their songs Sinner and Nothing Matters when they popped up on my Discovery queue (had to double check the names of those songs, so I would have failed the test), and there seemed to be lots of raving about them in the press last year. Listened to the album and I thought everything else was very forgettable. Certainly no Wet Leg. Heh, they're the only two songs of theirs that I know too. It's an OK album to have on in the background, but nothing else jumped out. I skimmed straight through most of their Glasto set to get to nothing matters. I always clam up when put on the spot, so they'd have probably kicked my head in when I failed to name a song.

Many years ago, a mate of mine (honestly, not me) was refused entry to a HearSay gig based on him being a single bloke - he was mortified. He has always been into what I think of as kids music, and I know there was no pedo intentions there - he just has shite tastes. Felt really sorry for him, he had been looking forward to it for ages and he tends to go to a lot less concerts since. Funnily enough, around the same time I noticed the average age of audiences at gigs I went to, going younger and younger. Then, around ten years ago it all rebounded the other way and I now fit the demographic again. All 6 Music dads as Nick would say

We went to see Frog Leap in concert yesterday. For those that don't know him, he does (very awesome) metal covers of 'regular' songs (check YouTube). The show was amazing! Standouts were Zombie (Cranberries) and Breathe (Prodigy), but the Pokémon theme also sounded awesome 😁. Very diverse crowd as well and everyone was having a great time.

I'd have smashed that mastermind quiz.
But seriously, has that venue not held a gig before? Half of all gigs are populated by single men avoiding eye contact with everyone.

I watched one of Last Dinner Party's live shows on youtube a while back and they seem to put on a good show.
I'd take them over Wet Leg any-day, but then I always thought Wet Leg was a bit one-note and very over-hyped. 🦵
I can't help but think that if you were a single pervert there would be better cheaper targets than a Last Dinner Party gig though.

Wet Leg just felt like the LATEST BIG THING that record labels were pushing and manufacturing hype for
It's all gone a bit quiet since their NEXT BIG THING period, so my opinion hasn't changed.
Not the first okayish indie-band to be overhyped who subsequently fade quickly and won't be the last.

Managed to grab a couple of tickets for the Mark Lanegan tribute gig at The Roundhouse in Dec, some good names already on the bill!

I totally agree on the wet leg takes, didn't do anything for me at the time and you could tell it was going to run out of steam within months.
I contrast The Last Dinner Party seem like the real deal for me. The first album isn't totally a masterpiece, but there's some great songs there and you feel like they can easily build on it.

Managed to grab a couple of tickets for the Mark Lanegan tribute gig at The Roundhouse in Dec, some good names already on the bill! I got an email about that saying it was a mark lanegan gig, and was like ' but he's dead'. Then spotted it was a tribute gig. Hope you enjoy it. Bet no-one will sound quite as good as him on the songs though!

First few acts for Arctangent 2025 have been announced.
Have to say I'm not bothered by most of them, mainly because I don't even know who they are. Fridays Headliner is Karnivool who I've never heard of.
Only acts catching my eye so far are Melvins and Rolo Tomassi, and maybe Dvne.
Between The Buried and Me are playing 2 sets but I don't really have any real thoughts about them.
Recognise a couple of other names but not familiar with the music.
Kind of a relief in a way as won't feel like I need to spend any money. Let's see what the other announcements are though.

I'll give them a listen.
Still, there's currently no "I really want to see" on their announced bands so far. A few I'd see if I did go and was free. May well change though

Pictish Trail was great last night. Solo rather than full band show in a tiny venue I’d not been to before. Played the first half doing acoustic versions in the style of his new EP. Then put on his giant papier mache head and broke out a few electro bangers to wrap things up. Told a lot of jokes between songs too.
As I’d missed his last four North East shows for various reasons I’m very happy that I managed to make last night and that he was brilliant. Back again in December too which’ll be nice.
Going to see an evening of MR James stories being told in the cellar of the Castle Keep tonight. I hope they ham it up and its not just one of the volunteers in a fleece.

Nice. I quite like some of his stuff I have heard on the radio. Will have to try to check the out on the next tour if they get round our way at some point.

Orange Goblin tonight.
There's a really nice tour t-shirt with the dates on the back but they've sold out of Medium. I'm a bit fat but I'm not yet Large fat.
Even if I was Large fat, they've also sold out of Large. And Small.
So the choice is XL. It would be a fucking tent.
So no merch for me.
FFS it's the main reason I go to gigs.

I applaud any mention of Orange Goblin. Only just noticed the mention of Karnivool further up the page, they are one I stumbled on a few years ago after The YouTubes decided they were enough like Kyuss (somehow) to recommend them to me, and I thought they were good enough that I acquired their three albums and enjoyed them. Didn't realise they were still active. On that note, "Asymmetry" is worthy of a mention in the Album Covers Apprec-o thread.

Orange Goblin are one of the only bands I’ve ever seem do a genuine encore and they did three that night.
Trillians Rock Bar in Newcastle about 20 years ago. Absolutely rammed and also one of the hottest gigs I’ve been to. Bands have to go through the crowd to get to the stage and no one would let them leave so every time they tried to stop people went mental cheering and demanding one more song.
It was an amazing gig to be fair.

Saw Billy Mitchell (from Lindesfarne) and Bob Fox (local folky, did the songs in the West End version of War Horse) doing a duo show the other night. Some originals, some old mining and shipbuilding songs, a lot of funny story telling. A really nice night out. Me and Mrs Simple were the youngest people in the theatre by at least a decade.
Also just booked us tickets for a dinner and music night in December. Bands are Blind Yeo (experimental psychedelic rock collective from Cornwall) and Painting (jazz influenced kraut rock from Germany) the food is Indian inspired old fashion ‘health food shop’ era veggie/vegan fair.
If ever a pair of gigs told me I was turning into my dad its these two.

My Mrs and her mate went up to Cambridge last night to watch Adam Ant. His tour bus was outside, but he obviously wasn’t feeling it, so it was cancelled last minute. I don’t know what sort of show he’d put on, but bit of a shame.

I loved Adam Ant as a kid and have seen him live a couple of times fairly recently. He’s good still but that chewing gum has lost some of its flavour.

We're off to see The Last Dinner Party tonight. It was banging. It was at the Apollo rather than seeing them in Dalston a year ago. So all the lighting was better, they'd also improved all their stage craft. Anyways anything I want from a gig, good chat with the crowd, stuff not played exactly as it is on the album, some new songs and some covers.

On a whim checked out when Geordie Greep would be touring his new solo album (he of Black Midi) and turns out he's over the bridge in Cornwall in two nights time at a small pub in Falmouth. Looking forward to that!
Followed by Soft Play next week on Halloween at Brixton, and then Fontaines D.C. couple of weeks aftwards, so got some hopefully great gigs coming up!
