They actually buffed the Rellana's Cameo talisman that increases damage of stance-based skills (skills that are done out of a stance, like Unsheathe or Square Off) if you hold the stance for a second. It went from +15% to +45%.
Yes, that's +45% on the Sword of Night and Flame.

And to her own swords... which also got a separate buff of their own.

I spent the whole of the main game and a good portion of the dlc using RoB and other katanas.
I’ve just been messing around with colossal weapons. They’re fun, especially the poise breaking which trivialises a lot of enemies that caused me problems before.
I’m still maining on Arcane but I think a respec might be in order again.

In case you haven't found Bloodfiend's Arm yet, give that a try, it's completely broken (it's close to the starting point of the DLC). And if you haven't already, try that weapon with a blood infusion before respeccing away from arcane.

That’s the weapon the intro’s me to the bigger weapons. Hits pretty hard I found - but the poise damage of the something something Black Hammer is just silly.

Black Steel Greathammer is great too, especially its guard counter. I guess that's intended to synergise with the new deflect tear.

I used that for a lot of the DLC, it's very strong with a sacred or flame infusion. That said I found the range a bit lacking.

I love the Sword of Night and Flame, it does feel cheesy sometimes but so satisfying taking out a NPC invader running towards you. On the final DLC boss now and yep, he's a little bit tricky (phase 2 he seems pretty relentless).

One of my favourite ways to deal with NPC enemies is to fuck them in the face with Repeating Thrust on an occult Great Katana. It's more a massacre than a fight, but that's preferable anyway and those annoying cunts deserve no better.

I’ve just reached Leyndell Royal Capital… who built this place? I’ve never felt more lost in my life. You see a big set of doors guarded by knights and are like “ah that’s where I’m going then” and then nope… purely ornamental.

Ok, Mountaintops of the Giants.
Bloody hell the difficulty spikes a bit here, right? Think once I’ve found the assassination guy I might head back and do Volcano Manor.
How does the Subterranean Shunning Ground compare in terms of difficulty? Is it easier than Mountaintops or more late game?

A bit easier I'd say, though those big horned guys hit hard.

Shunning Grounds enemies are technically one "level" higher than Mountaintops, but Mountaintops has harder enemy types and bosses, so imo Mountaintops is harder. Volcano Manor is one level lower, still a challenge but personally I'd do it before the others.

A bit easier I'd say, though those big horned guys hit hard. Both times I've played I have felt so overwhelmed fighting those guys. They feel impossible with the damage they do... until it suddenly clicks and I can get into the rhythm of dodging their attacks. Taking them down fairly easily after that. Still avoid fighting more than one though.

That was the issue I found when you first get into Mountaintop of the Giants - the Zamor knights aren’t overly hard, but if you smack one he calls over his mates.
Even the Forbidden Lands was a step up. Who taught the Vulgar Militia how to use Beast incantations? Not that kindly old clergyman, that’s for sure.

Shadow of the Erdtree nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. As great as it was, I'd personally disagree that a DLC should win Best Overall Game compared to new releases this year. Especially if you are required to play some 30-100 hrs to even reach the DLC.

Plus it was worse than the main game Very much debatable. But in any case (cheeky "well it was better than many actual full games this year" jokes aside ) if they want to nominate such expansions there's no reason not to create a "Best DLC" category... Not that there's much respect left for the Game Awards anyway but I'd at least expect them to be able to do that!

It really does seem like Geoff saw that Metaphor was going to win GOTY and decided he didn't want any of them there Japanese anime games winning the big prize.

Tbh, I think if a DLC is good enough to be in the running for GOTY then it’s fair enough to be in consideration. I can’t think of many single player games I’ve put more hours into this year

I can’t think of many single player games I’ve put more hours into this year I agree with that. Don't think it should win though, more so as it doubled down on the genre's worst excesses to a comical level but that's a different argument.

Should also be mentioned it's something that you can't even access until you put anywhere between 40-100 hrs into the base game before you can access it. Don't think anyone is questioning it's quality, but it really does feel like an excuse to get it on the list, especially when they've just changed the rules this year.

I loved SotE and it deserves some kind of award, but FFVII Rebirth should win GotY.
