It's by Malindy, so take it with a huge pinch of salt.

Acg and skillup both thought it was great and it looks like something I will enjoy so I grabbed the ps5 version.

Reviewing better than I expected to be honest. Glad to hear the combat is getting plenty of praise.

Not picked it up yet, but it's high on my list for next purchase.

Yep definitely will be picking this up at some point on PC. The Epic exclusive deal is likely 12 months... what do we reckon about discounts in the future? Do Epic normally have sales on exclusive games within the exclusivity period? Or should I just spunk £32 on it now?

Pretty much exactly what I'm weighing up. I may just impulse buy it on Epic. Looks like a total palette cleanser.

It's by Malindy, so take it with a huge pinch of salt. True, she compares it BotW, which is the worst comparison this side of apples and oranges. It’s 100% a launch title, one year after launch. 10-15 hrs means I can be done with it by tomorrow so I can get back to Arise. I still don’t know what they thought with the cutscenes, as far as I can tell they could all be done in-engine. Maybe they were being paid by gb.

It's by Malindy, so take it with a huge pinch of salt. She does have the biggest takes. My favourite was "game design is hard" to excuse a shit part of a game.

Speaking of biggest takes, why is this a launch title released a year after launch?

Yeah that's an odd thing to say.

I find some of the reviewers at EG are very selective over what they want to like and what they don't. The "game design is hard" bit is just one example. They'll excuse some games massively but be a tight arse about others, sometimes sounding completely miserable. I guess it's all subjective though On topic, glad to see this is reviewing well. I'll buy it at some point, just not right now since I've got enough on my plate.

Speaking of biggest takes, why is this a launch title released a year after launch? Ratchet and Clank was a launch title six months late, by their own admission I think? Pandemic and all that. So perhaps not the most off take. Can't say if that meaningfully applies to Kena though. I thought this looked amazing in the sizzle real from a year or so back, but if it's just a prettied up PS2 era platformer then, much like Ratchet and Clank, it's probably not for me. If it ends up in a Humble Bundle for a fiver, then obviously I reserve the right to cave immediately.

It's definitely not a prettied up platformer from the hour or so I have played. Very little platforming at all so far.

Speaking of biggest takes, why is this a launch title released a year after launch? A pretty but shallow game, designed to show what the next gen will be like, hurried to make it by launch. One you buy because you want something to play on your new shiny. Like a Ryse.

I just skim read the EG review which mentioned some, but mainly I was going by a bunch of Twitter peeps saying it's a very well dressed version of PS2 era mascot platformer, but maybe they referred more to the mascot than the genre.
Either way, I'm sure it'll be a nice 15 hours palate cleanser at some point down the line. I still have Psychonauts 2 to plough through, which *is* a prettied up version of a PS2 era mascot platformer. But it is, at least, funny. ;-D

Gameplay definitely isn't shallow, I thought you were using launch title as a stick to beat it with and it's certainly of a much higher quality than what you are suggesting.
Have just downed the first boss and it's a reasonable challenge on the second hardest difficulty. I would certainly say it's a good level to start out on as you can turn it down if you are struggling.
Sound, music and visuals are really top notch as well.

One you buy because you want something to play on your new shiny. Like a Ryse. It's the first game from a new studio with an animation background, that wasn't rushed for launch as it was delayed 3 times and released a year later. So no, not really.

Just bought this for the little one who is 7 and she is loving it so far. I'm sure if I play it I'll wizz through it but as the first game of this type for her it does a lot right

Is it a digital release only? Tried searching on Boomerang and they haven't got it. Usually have everything.

She might struggle with some bits of it as some of the puzzles will be a bit too hard and the combat can be tricky at times. You might have to offer a bit of assistance to help her through.

Yeah, playing on easy so we will see how it goes.
We played all the way through paper Mario and Luigi mansion together and she loved them.

This is beautiful. Solid so far but I’m only an hour in. Reminds me a bit of Frozen 2, or Pixar does Ghibli. For a first game it;s pretty impressive, though there a few things that feel a bit stiff in execution. Ember labs’ 2nd and 3rd games are going to be fire.

Is there any weight to EG's review based on people's playtime so far?

I would rather have someone stamp on my testicles than read through one of their reviews mate, so unfortunately I can't tell you.
I will say the combat is good, the graphics and sound are excellent. Will get a few more hours on it tomorrow and give more impressions then.

Hahaha fair enough. The summary of the review was basically it doesn't do anything new, is very unoriginal and is too polished as to be inoffensive with no character. It was a typical review of that particular writer.

I hate it when a game is too polished.
