I tthink the combat is a bit shit. The timing for everything is just a bit off, be it parries, dodges or rot tying (which is really annoying as you have to be aimed to get t at all). Enemy telegraphing is pretty poor, and they constantly “predict” where you’ll dodge to. It’s not difficult in a Souls way.

I don't see the off timing. Everything feels spot on to me. I had to learn to dodge at the last moment before impact though. A jumping boss would hit me if I dodged too soon after he jumped, but woudn't if I waited until he almost landed.
But, in the boss fight I just did that I'm going to have to do again, he has points of interest on the back and he basically cheats by skipping animations and warping to a position that faces me, the bastard.

This is honestly one of the prettiest games I've ever saw. Crazy that a little indie team have made something that looks like this. Really cool little place to explore.

I'm only a little way in but so far so good. Doesn't do anything new but everything it borrows it does well. Started off on the default middle difficulty and will see how far I get before caving in and switching to the first one.
The only real niggle is that targeting enemies during combat seems a bit shit.

Yeah you kind of get used to it but it should be sharper than it is.

You can lock on if you want but it's only really useful for the elite mobs, complete waste of time for the little ones.
And yes mobs do track you, but like previously mentioned you have to leave dodges late. Parries as well require perfect timing, which is only right as they are extremely powerful.

If anyone isn't doing so I'd recommend playing with headphones. The sound mix is weird and muted through speakers but really comes to life through headphones. The music is fantastic.

Is there some way to use these hats I keep finding?

There's a hat shop in the village area, right next to where you first use the mask. You can equip them on your little dudes using the gem currency.
No idea if that currency has other uses or if you should just spunk it all on hats.

Spend it all on hats.

So I've got to find them and then also buy them? What the fuck kind of tiny mud creature hat scam are these cunts running here?

You have to buy a hat for each rot as well. I think they are in on it.

Yeah, the hat thing is stupid.

There are hat stalls in a few places. Also I really 'love' it when you have a particularly hard cursed chest, only to win the battle by the skin of your teeth and be rewarded with... A hat!
That you then have to buy!! /o\

Actually he was really easy once I realised popping his zits wasn't actually that important.

He appears as a normal enemy later if that's the fella with the dual swords.

It was the guy just after unlocking the bow. But yeah I ended up killing him without taking any damage once I got a proper understanding of the dodge timing.

Also I think your opinions on that hat will change when you unlock the cowboy hat. I've got an army of little cowboys following me and it's almost as good as if they put bonanza back on TV.

Some of the later bosses are right bastards. The one with the forge is a really good fight though.

Thought the Wood Knight , or whatever he's called wasn't too bad on normal, did it on my 3rd attempt. Just block or dodge and wait for an opening. Using rot and hitting his glow orbs makes it quicker, but makes no diff. The unskippable cutscenes during the fight were more of a travesty tbh 😊

That the one with the shield? He wasn't too bad at all, there are far harder ones than him in your not too distant future I have been skipping the cutscenes during fights I have failed by holding X(at least I'm pretty sure its X), does it not work on him?

Leave dodging as late as possible and unlock rot hammer as soon as you can.

Ok. All done, I finished the campaign on normal and despite some of the later bosses being rock hard, I really enjoyed myself. It is a fantastic little game.

Yeah some of the bosses are evil but they are some really well designed fights with some good mechanics.
It's a brilliant little game though and one of my favourites of the year

Didn't really gel with it at first and came back to it today and ploughed through a decent chunk. They start throwing bosses at you after a certain point and some of them are absolute cunts... Toying with the idea of dropping down to story mode but I've got this far damnit! They seem to be a bit hit and miss with boss fight checkpoints. Some seem designed for frustrating resets, others are just adding to my frustration... Currently on the boss after the mage boss (who was also a cnut and I couldn't seem to interrupt his heal move) Starts off with a big dirty unskippable cutscene so I'm guessing this is the one you guys complained about... All of the bosses have mostly been a couple of attempts though, the worst part of the game so far was the tree shrine where you have those apes throwing purple AOE hammers at you...

Hasn't quite clicked with me yet, but I'm only up to the bit where you get the bow and have to collect 3 macguffins in the forest, it looks just lovely so it has that going for it as well as it being early days. Been struggling to want to play it above other games so far though. Hopefully it's just a case of not having played enough of it.
