I know there are currently a few EGers (Font Geekers?) just getting into these games, whether through 0 or Like a Dragon. I'm about half way through 0 right now and am loving it to bits. The mix of humour, melodrama, over the top action and genuine heart is just captivating. It's rad! The sidequest where you have to buy a porno mag for a little kid had me in stitches. I'm definitely gonna be working my way through the whole series. And Judgement too I guess. I've heard 0 is one of the best entries so I hope the other games don't disappoint.

The thread we all needed.
I'm currently slowly playing through Judgment at the minute and loving it. Plan to play through Yakuza 0-6 next so I'm not going to be bored for the next 18 months at least going off how long the few I've played have taken.

I'm only on Chapter 4 or 5 of LAD but have played through 0-6 and my fave is definitely Zero followed by either Kiwami or 5. A lot of people find Yakuza 5 bloated but I loved the variety and mental story and characters. Such fun games with surprisingly strong social commentary in all the insanity.

I've stalled a bit on Yakuza 5, got to Act 2 and the hunting stuff is so dull. Hoping I can skip most of it. Tbf I've parked the game for a bit but will return to it soon, really want to pile through this and 6 to finish Kiryu's story and then either do both Judgement games or straight onto Like A Fuckin' Dragon.

I'm currently on chapter 7 of LAD. It's weird that it's both such a departure and yet so familiar. I'm enjoying it so far but I think I prefer the original style now apparently offered only by Judgment.
Of the original series I think it really went out on a high point with 6. They got rid of all the extraneous dross and it being more focused helped it. 5 I thought was just way too bloated with less fun stuff than any other Yakuza. That said, the taxi stuff was amazing.

Just starting on 4.
Played Kiwami around Christmas and was blown away. Then kiwami 2, followed by 0 and 3.
I think this is genuinely my favourite game series ever and I don't know how how I missed it up until now.
I am thrilled I still have 4, 5, 6, 7 and Judgement still to come. I can't believe I have played 4 games set in one city block this year and still am not even slightly bored by it.

Waiting patiently for Lost Judgment next month as I have finished the rest (bar Dead Souls, Kenzan and Ishin)...

I love the story in the ones I have played I just wish they would trim some of the bloat out of the games. I don't mean the story I mean things like the grinding in like a dragon for experience or money. The characters are absolutely wonderful though, they have a brilliant ability to flesh them out and get you invested in them.
If I could get through one in about 20 hours that would be perfect for me I think.

Trying to work up the energy to start 0. I really liked Like A Dragon, which was my first Yakuza game, but fuck me the cutscene density for the first 10 hours or so is punishing.

Heh, playing through Judgment as my second Yakuza game after LaD at the moment and it's very much the same. Played an hour and half so far tonight and I think I've actually played for about 10 minutes of that.
Not that I mind. I'm kind of tempted to even knock it down from normal to easy and just enjoy playing detective and see where the story takes me. Got plenty of other games to get more involved in.

Yeah I'm thinking I might cane through some of them on easy just to experience the main story, otherwise I'll still be playing this series in 2030. Happy to skip most of the mini games. From my experience with 0 some of the best moments are found in the side quests though...

Depends on what you’re looking for. The side quests are often surreal weirdness which absolutely clash with the super serious main plot, but it all seems to somehow work.
The less said about the weird dating/striptease mini games the better though.

My completion of the games usually involves doing all side stories (sometime failing the regular bonus one for doing all of the rest which can be hard) and the 'main' mini games for each entry/city (for example the hostess clubs running in 0 or the gangs in Kiwami). I don't think I quite managed them lol in my original PS2 Y1/2 playthroughs but from 3 onwards I have tended to do so. Never get anywhere near Platinum trophies (my closest oddly being LaD where I only missed the NG+ stuff I think). 5 I flagged around Sapporo and didn't do all the hostesses but still fully did taxis, hunting etc (I managed to get quite into the hunting in the end which surprised me, shades of D2 on Dreamcast...)

Played through Kiwami 2 recently, until I hit a bug where after you hit the max save count(15?), it doesn't let you save OR delete any other saves, so you are knackered. Got to go back to an old save, and redo an entire chapter, and not sure I have the energy.

Lost about two and a half hours of progress, but by skipping cutscenes I managed to get back to the same point in about 20 minutes.

I think 3 is by some distance the weakest although the initial setting and a couple of characters are great.

I didn't have this problem with any of them on PS4 and always ran out of saves and had to reuse the older saves.

Played 0 as my first, absolutely loved it. Kiwami felt a little bare-bones afterward, but I did appreciate the it was a little less bloated and had a bit more pace. 6 was brilliant, might be my favourite of the bunch. Stalled a few chapters into Kiwami 2 - the plot bored me senseless. Stalled around halfway through Judgement - decent enough plot, but I was just tired of the formula by then. Got LAD on the shelf, hoping the switch to turn-based reinvigorated things a little and looking forward to the kart racing minigame.

Started 4 but taking a little break from the series. Been a heavy Yakuza year on Xbox

I've beaten the Management mini-game in LAD and money is basically no object to me now. I can't believe how much I got sucked in by it, I played it in its entirety almost non-stop.

Played all 6 mainline ones as the were released and then 0 and the Kiwamis all hit around the same time so I got a bit burned out, think I got a few hours into Kiwami 1 though

I haven't played my remastered 3-5 though. Looking forward to Lost Judgment then maybe go back and do Dead Souls or finish Kenzan (which will probably be when a Kiwami version gets announced . Finished the FOTNS:Yakuza Edition too.

Yakuza 1 & 2 were two of my favourite ever games, I loved them so much but recently tried 3 and found it a real drag... any recommendations on where to go from here please? Should I go with 4 (already have it as part of PS+) or just move onto Yakuza 0?

Should I go with 4 (already have it as part of PS+) or just move onto Yakuza 0? Yakuza 0 is the best game in the series but 4 is a clear step up from 3 with multiple fun characters. I'd try 4, if it doesn't click, just go to zero.
