They have disbanded many years ago, but are definitely worth returning to from time to time. Melodic Doom/Death.

New Black Curse track out, album coming soon.
Definitely some of the scariest blackened death I've heard. Love it.

Whitechapel back with some of their original Deathcore sounds. Lots of Cookie Monster vocals, but at least it's easy to understand the vocals while still being extremely heavy

Unto Others new album is out today, gave it a bit of a listen at work and now listening properly. I really like it. Very goth. Very much looking forward to seeing them (again) when they tour with Green Lung next year.

Album out today, thought it was really good. Atmospheric, quite brutal

Anyone doing Iron Maiden this tour? Got tickets for the London show, looking forward to it! I’d love to but I honestly feel at the moment that I can have hobbies or I can go to concerts and not both. The prices are becoming ludicrous. The cheapest I can find is a hair under £160 and having to pay that a year in advance a couple of months before Xmas is a tough choice. Possibly the wrong thread for it though, and I’m aware that the costs of touring are now prohibitive.

In a similar position. Haven't seen them for a couple of tours and would love to go, but just cannot afford the ridiculous ticket prices these days.

Especially once you factor in travel: fuel prices, train prices, car parking... And then the price of food and drink at venues. It's getting stupid.
/Looks fondly at 1991 Metallica NEC ticket with £19 face value.

Woah that's a lot. Our standing tickets were £107 I think which is the most I've ever paid for a gig (excluding festivals obviously). Feels like it could be brilliant though, I missed out on the Twickenham show a while ago so definitely keen to see them do a massive outdoor show one more time without having to put up with Download.
Blood Incantation new "single" (actually the first half of the album which comes out next week) and video came out yesterday, it's excellent. 20 mins (with a full video) and never dull throughout which is an achievement! Also featuring Tangerine Dream 😂
Looking forward to seeing them play it in full at Incineration fest (which is looking incredible so far) next year!

That's Blood Incantation single is quite something. I like that they're leaning into the prog side of thing even more, and incorporating the eletronics they experimented on Timewave Zero.

Just so happens I love prog, ambient, synths, sci fi and of course death metal... So to be all those things and actually good is a huge win in my book!

Anyone doing Iron Maiden this tour? Got tickets for the London show, looking forward to it! If they pass through Greece in the summer festivals (nothing announced so far, but perhaps it could be squished into the tour somehow) I will.
Had tickets for their summer 2022 appearance here, but ended up at the hospital having heart bypass surgery and missed that...

Poppy seems to be leaning very much into the metal side of things again, after the electronic based previous album.
I'm liking this but it does feel a bit unoriginal. I got into Poppy with the I Disagree album, which was just a weird mix of pop, electronica, metal, and I liked how it jumped from one genre to another.
Since then each album has been very different but it's been a bit "here's Poppy doing grunge" or "here's Poppy doing industrial", and now this is "here's Poppy doing nu-metal / metalcore". I kinda wish there would just be some musical curveballs again. She does sound great though.

Yeah that Blood Incantation album is actually amazing and could easily be my AOTY.
I've not even been a huge fan of them before, but this is some next level shit.

Haven't really been into black metal much this year. Listened to a few solid albums BM albums (including Dodsrit, Borknagar, Hulder, Darkthrone, Sabbat, Spectral Wound, Hauntologist, Uprising, Witch Club Satan, Kanonfieber) and whilst they're all very good, and some have amazing tracks, I'm not sure any will end up on my top 20 of the year.
With that all that said, Winterfylleth - The Imperious Horizon is bloody good and might end up in my top 20, maybe even top 10.
(Depending on whether or not it counts, Midnight - Hellish Expectations is a BM album and would easily be in my top 5).

I posted this in the album art thread, but the album really needs a mention in here. I've listened to this repeatedly for the last few days, it's a banger. Think Elder meets Leviathan Era Mastodon.

Something else for prog metal fans:
I loved Monolithe's last album, Kosmodrom, so I'm looking forward to this.

A little plug for a Greek band, hope you like them:

That was pretty cool. I'm sure I've heard at least a couple of Greek metal bands but the only one I can recall is Rotting Christ. Will give them more of a listen.
In other new weird metal I've been listening to updates, I've also recently found out about Oranssi Pazuzu which is just lovely. In a black metal meets post-metal meets trip-hop way.

drhickman1983 Actually, Rotting Christ and Septic Flesh are our extreme metal offerings for many years now! Other bands worth mentioning are The Silent Wedding (prog) and Sacred Outcry (power), if you got some time.

Tim Lambesis is such a loser that his band members just keep abandoning him. Two of As I Lay Dying just quitting at the same time. You'd think hiring a hitman to kill his ex wife would have been the line in the sand anyway. Fuck him

I didn't even know he had a new band.. I feel so out of the loop. Dillinger Escape Plan are the GOATS.
