I'm not a car owner or enthusiast at all. Looking at performance upgrades on cars scares me unless I see a big number go up. But GT7 intrigues me, I wonder if it will still be OK. I do like racing games with big career modes. Project Cars 3 has been OK but has its issues with progression and AI. The tuning menu is nowhere near as complicated as it looks. GT is genuinely my source of education on car parts and stuff because I'm also not much of an enthusiast. 99% of the time it's as simple as choosing the best item you have for each category. The most complicated thing I ever did was identify that I'd tuned a car beyond the capabilities of the stock gearbox as it redlined in top gear (just four gears, old American muscle car), so I went and bought a racing transmission and customised the gear ratios. It's honestly really straightforward and self-explanatory, and I don't understand why Project Cars and Forza aren't as good at it (never played the Corsa one). I can't really even explain the difference but GT is somehow both deeper and more accessible and satisfies both filthy casuals and racing buffs. To be honest the stock car/banger racing aspect of the beginning is my favourite part of the game

I don't think I've played a GT game properly since 2. Maybe 3. I transitioned over to Forza for a racing fix, and then Horizon. But I'm quite tempted by this one.

Exactly the same for me, enough time has passed for me to get hyped for another GT game.
The only problem I have is justifying it at a time when I have about 8 games on the go.

Hmmm, I hope you can choose to just use the track-based replays instead of these “music replays”. They’re the best bit and something GT has always done better than anyone else. These new ones they’re showing off are a bit like the crappy Codemasters ones.

Music Rally may be the weirdest “new feature” I’ve seen touted for a game in a long time.
That tuned up Beetle looked cool though. The replay looked a bit more normal in that too.
The only question is, do I try to hunt down a PS5 ahead of launch…

The pad would be worth it alone. The difference it makes to racing games is huge.

Yeah, I am quite intrigued to see what the difference is and how it’s better than the big standard rumble. Not tried one out yet.

To be honest the stock car/banger racing aspect of the beginning is my favourite part of the game I've had similar experience. Normally just get higher end upgrades, and then tweak gears to suit, occasionally tweaking suspension to try and get the steering I want but leave it at that. In FH I love that you can download others tunes, and see how they compare to your current setup, but when doing your own I'm completely lost (for one, you don't seem to be able to see the easy comparison when doing it yourself).

What’s definitely putting me off buying this is A. Elden Ring will be sucking up a lot of time and B. Assetto Corza Competitione will have a PS5 update around this time, it’s the better pure sim. But obviously that’s all bollocks and I’ll definitely be buying this anyway.

That there 4k video of this State of Play was a bit special, think I may have to get this. The lesson on clouds and rain sold it to me. I'm also kind of surprised that a AAA game has split screen racing. Definitely not a common thing these days.

It looks wonderful. I was always pissed that they didn't release GT6 on the PS4, it deserved a release on that. This has been a long time coming.

Not sure who this guy is but some new footage here. Looking like the AI could be good.

There's rumoured to be an announcement in the next few days about an 'AI breakthrough' from Sony, with Gran Turismo specifically named. Would be the final piece of the puzzle of the perfect game.

In fact, it's Polyphony and Sony specifically that have achieved this breakthrough looking again.

Machine learned, B-spec opponent AI sounds pretty glorious on paper.

ai.sony/blog/blog-016/Doesn't sound like it will be a part of GT7. Weird timing so close to launch, but seems like more of a scientific breakthrough than anything that will be any use to players for a while.

Yeah read the news and just thought "isn't this what Turn10 were doing with Drivatars ten years ago?" - granted without the beacon of light analogies and "PD speak".

Figured with all that GT Sport data they'd just be cobbling bits and bobs of that. So that Porsche gets driver AI No2765b where it storms off early, being difficult to catch for the player, before spinning out on the 5th corner on the second to last lap, just as Eatmidust555 did on that rainy Tuesday afternoon long ago. Or something.
Two problems for me.
1- What exactly will it be like on PS4 ? 2- I'll spend days in the livery editor anyway.

If it's anything like Forza, it'll be AI Drivatar, I'm sorry, Sophy dickheads trying to run you off the track.

I just tend to drive all the way in front so the other drivers don’t bother me.
