Interesting art style. Seems a bit Sam and Max-y.

I loved them all, even 'Escape.' I love the characters and the world. I so hope they pull this off because I can't be doing with another disappointment in my life.
Good interview too.

I see Ron has shut down his blog for the time being because a load of "fans" went into a rage about the art direction. It's a real shame that he's been begged to make this game for 30 years and that's the thanks he gets.

It was obvious to a blind man - ESPECIALLY after Thimbleweed Park - that retro is where people's expectations were for this. There's nothing about the new art style that I like. When the games transitioned from pixel to line/comic style is when I pretty much wandered off. I'll play this because the original band is back together, but it'll be for the content and not for the look of the thing which I'll just grit my teeth through.

Oh, so that's why it's offline.
People are morons. I don't like the style either, but I'll play and enjoy it regardless.

Maybe he was interested in making a pixel art game again? It isn't about what YOU want all the time.

Paradigm is free on Epic at the moment, it's one of the better recent point and clicks. Also Curse of Monkey Island is free with Amazon Prime in May, following MI2 this month.

It's annoying none of the MI's are available on the switch, seems perfect for it.

Well, in that excellent interview (earlier in this thread? scrolling up is too much effort) he said exactly that. Which is fine, he can make what he wants. Doesn't change what the expectation amongst a lot of fans was though and, if I had to guess, the visual style is gonna cost them a good wodge of sales.

All the games without Ron haven't been the same, according to the 'fans', so this comes along, with Ron back, and 'fans' aren't happy because it isn't their entitled view of what the game should be. Can you not take a step back and see it for what it is?

I dread to see the comments when the story doesn't go the way the fans want.
I was really hoping this would tempt Ron into making more Monkey but I doubt it now.
I really don't get it, the first games only used pixel art because there wasn't much choice back then. The other games switched their styles and the new one looks really good in motion, it probably gives them more flexibility to do "stuff" that you can't with pixel art.

This nonsense is like saying Mario games should be only 2D pixel games.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, I'm not shutting anyone down.. but when it's so ridiculous as to shut down a blog. It just pisses me off that it is a passion project for Ron, and a few screenshots that have little or no context, and it's shat on. I mean it isn't unique, it happens everywhere.

I played the originals back in the day and then the SE editions with the revamped art style.
In all honesty I prefer the art style of the SE editions. Not sure what the big deal is.

Yeah I played the originals back on the Amiga and thought the art was the least interesting part of it back then. Much preferred Full Throttle's art and even Maniac Mansion.

I'm not one of the nutters giving him grief on the blog. What's your problem? Why do I need to take a step back? I don't need to take a step back, I know what it is - much less retro than I'd have liked it to be. At least the music will be great. And the dialogue. And the puzzles. But that look? Pah.

Also: I'm not *unhappy* with it. Just a little disappointed at the visual style. I'm obviously overjoyed that they got the band back together, and I'm hyped for the release.

Oh, I didn't realise it was going to look like *that*
I was okay with 3D and no sprites, but I dunno... that's quite a departure.

I don’t mind it being a departure, every MI game has been very different as tech has progressed. But this is just ugly.
I’m sure I’ll have forgotten about the looks 5 minutes into playing it.

I think that looks great actually, which is a change of mind after seeing the images they released before now.
It's great having Dominic Armatto back for the voice of Guybrush
