It's crazy they have been able to fuck about with so many lives.
If they are only selling the studios then I don't see many buying. Going to need the IPs as well.

So they've pivoted to an asset stripping venture then? Cool.

You would think they could find a buyer for them plus the Timesplitters IP.

I'll give them 50p for it.
I think the games are rubbish.

Only played 2 and gave up after about 3 levels. But seems a lot of people still want a 4th.

I've got fond memories of all them but especially 2 and 3.
Timesplitters and SSX were the only things I used to play when I got a launch PS2.

Is a new Tomb Raider still a thing? Yeah, it's being published by Amazon so that's ok.

They literally got the old team back to make a new TimeSplitters after all these years, including almost all the original Goldeneye devs, and it’s all going down the toilet.

I'm not sure why anybody would be interested in buying a studio without any IP attached. The office(s) are nearly always rented or leased and any big name or highly talented staff will have already flown the coop or be in the process of making an exit.
What exactly are you buying? A load of secondhand office furniture and computers? All stuff you can get anywhere without having to also buy a bunch of stuff you don't want also. Maybe if the studio owned some valuable patents and tools, though I'm sure all that would be stripped out and kept or sold off separately by the vendor.

They were buying the original developers of an IP they now owned and wanted to bring back (because nostalgia). To sell. For money.

I hadn't really paid too much attention to Embracer, but to me it looks like that Gearbox acquisition was really a bit of a fuck up.

Essentially we've got a proper asset strip here. They're going to probably do a Konami and licence out the IP in the end but have no actual studios. It's fucking criminal how many IP they actually own. It really is a strong argument against this era of mass buyouts/takeovers.

If was pretty obvious to everyone outside of Embracer that going fucking nuts buying up everything in sight (Free Radical being a slight exception as it was set up by them rather than bought) was always going to end badly.
I wonder when they put Lord of the Rings up for sale as it's probably their biggest asset but possibly won't generate money as fast as they clearly need it.

But where do all the intellectual properties go? That's the best bit. Embracer get to keep them.

I'm interested in the new Alone in the Dark, but I must admit that I'd feel pretty bad about giving my money to Embracer nowadays. And let's be honest, with how their other games have been received so far, there's little hope that game will be any better.
I'll wait for reviews, but that Steam wallet money is ready to be redirected elsewhere, of course.
