I presume if I build more extractors I can complete cargo link missions faster? Don’t want to waste resources.

Lol. Had the andreja invisible head glitch today and i can't visit briggs for some ebbside quest on neon as he's behind a locked door, so i can't see him.
Hopefully that will be patched soonish. Parking it for now. Rangers quest ship reward is nice. That's my home ship now.
Working through ryujin stuff now. Just about to blast some ecliptic fools later tonight once the missus heads to bed and i can get back on it.

Fucksake, never have I ever save-scummed as much as in the second- last Ryujin mission.

Do they get better because grabbing coffee and travelling across the universe to drop files off in a box is a pretty low bar to start?

I spent 4 hours today not doing any exploring, no missions, no killing or spacing. I spent it trying to work out this whole outpost/cargolink setup.
So far I've figured out, extractors link to regular containers that have a nice snazzy percentage meter on them. I then have those linked to a transfer container which links to a cargo link landing platform. I now have, aluminium, beryllium & europium in a network.
I don't think I need the regular containers but they work as a bit of a buffer so I'll leave these ones for now.
I've then replicated it elsewhere on the same planet, mining iron. I finally connected the 2 cargo links and a ship dropped in.
Now at this point I was expecting to find the alu,ber & eur resources in the iron link, with the idea that I keep tagging another link onto the end to get a virtual 'line of stops' and which all flows towards the head point. However, I found iron in the first link so maybe they just propagate across all ?!? Who the fuck knows.
I've now added a 3rd with HE3 to see if I can initialise interstellar links. If this works then I'm just going to Dyson Spere Project this shit and bring all the goods to me on my a beautiful location of my choosing.

I don’t think you necessarily need an interim container. I built a container for solids then found benzene couldn’t go in it. Linked the extractor straight to the cargo link ‘outgoing’ container.

I’ve completed the story arc now and on balance it was pretty good. Just… invest in stealth, AND make sure you have a chameleon suit before the endgame.

Really? Oh dear. I have 2 points in stealth, but sold my chameleon hat as it didn't seem to do much vs the first mob in the rangers quest line. Maybe have to get hold of something else.

Disclaimer: it is entirely possible that you can just shoot your way through that Ryujin mission and come out laughing- I just didn’t want to. After all they gave me a *stealth* suit

Don't think I'll get there as it seems I've got a game breaking bug, can't land on Jemison anymore and it's the next step in the main quest.
Classic.

hedben I already did enough shooting through the stealth/hacking one as it seemed impossible to actually stealth through later on- at least with my level of stealth. Tbf I shouldn't have taken andreja with me, who went a bit 'weapons hot' when i was trying to avoid it!

Sooo on a random planet I dropped a beacon to start an outpost. I then dropped a transfer container which outputs to one each of the solid, liquid and gas containers behind it. I then have duplicates of each that continuously link to more of the same before coming back to 3 neat containers right at the side of my transfer container so I can see the storage.
I can now continue to add more of each type of container to the stack at the back and update the links. Infinite autosorted storage.
Land, dump fly off. BOOM!
I'll add some crafty benches and I am rocking.
I just need to figure out how the cargo links come in because I don't want to fill it up with a single resource before I've got others up and running

This cargo system is needlessly convoluted. It could and should have been designed loads easier than this that didn't require all these stupid links.
I've just spent time setting up 3 outposts harvesting some basics, alu, iron, copper etc and was going to link them to the 4th one to act as a sort of hub which will then ship it off system to a base location when I find it.
The daisy chaining of links doesn't work like I thought I'd understood earlier. They link 1 to 1 so you have to have a giant landing pad for each link. That's fucking ridiculous.
Anyway I set them up so each of the outposts was shipping stuff to this base and then unloading them all to a transfer container along with the local resources. After some oddity getting the links to kickstart involving some jumping between outposts things started moving.
Finally, whack down the Interstellar pad ... oh, you can only have 3 pads per outpost. FFS!
Seems I've got to replace one of these with the ILS version and then add another link at an existing outpost to act as some kind of consolidation activity.
The TLDR of all this is What a fucking faff. I'm fucking it all off and I'm going to go shoot some cunts next time I'm on.

Each outpost needs an in and an out pad. Fuck knows why they have an in and out box cos they can only 1 link. Now I have 4 outposts in a system denoted as below...
Outpost 1 to 4 : Op1-4 Pads : in / out
Op1 is the start and only has an out pad. Each Op hops along to the next in the chain, linking to the out pad - it might require a transfer container in-between the pads! Op1_out -> Op2_in Op2_out -> Op3_in Op3_out -> Op4_in Op4_interstellar_out
The last Op will need a run off for HE3 to power the ILS and potentially even loop it back to Op1 for fuelling the outposts potentially

Haha, yep. I had a quick look at how to do one of the resource gathering achievements and just noped out of it. That's one that'll forever sit unfinished.
I also had to fit two parts to my ship as part of a mission and ended up looking up a tutorial on YouTube. For a game that was delayed for polish, you'd think someone would've pointed out what a convoluted mess the menus in this are.

Its attempted some low level version of satisfactory. It's just as awkward to get around and view stuff but it seems infinitely more convoluted in its mechanics to get a 'line' going.
I imagine this feature branch of the code was continually picked up and dropped by various people and who all chopped and changed it over the months and the end result is this abortive mess.
Fuck it I'll kill people and steal their shit instead

Do they get better because grabbing coffee and travelling across the universe to drop files off in a box is a pretty low bar to start? Yeah, I think so. Those quests are still present, but I think I've got a much better sense now of which quests are going to be delivering coffees and which are actually going to go somewhere interesting. I'm about 23 hours in now, which is a surprise if I'm honest. I don't like all the menus and loading screens, but I'm adjusted to them now and the irritation in me has settled. I like the universe. There I said it. There are some funny characters in it. And some of the side quests have taken unexpected turns. I like choosing all the sarcastic dialogue options and seeing how people react. I'm investing in the Diplomacy perks and having fun persuading people of things. And when it goes wrong and I need to shoot people, the guns are crunchy enough to mask the perfunctory combat. I don't use any of the workbenches and I don't use the laser cutter and I have no idea about building bases or whatever it is. But Todd has said he has made a world where players can do what interests _them_, and I think that rings true. It just took at least 10 fucking hours to get past an unfathomably boring start and get a handle on some of the systems at play.

PS: not entirely sure which coffee quest you are referring to, but I actually laughed at a posh guy in a restaurant talking about sourcing coffee shat out by an alien on another planet. Reminded me of the Coffee Wankers thread on here

It's pretty much the first Ryujin quest. And yeah, they do get a bit more interesting (although even that one was decent imo) There are also some awful stealth missions. The first one I finished with a lot of quicksave spam, but for the second one I'd highly recommend just going in all guns blazing. It seems to barely make an impact.

Got around it by using a non-lethal shot to the NPC by the door. His goons come through the door to deal with me (I just ran up and started the conversation). If you are ok with a bounty/arrested/pissing off Andreja then that's one way.

Few pages have gone by, it was a question about supply missions. does it have enough he3? (ship fuel) The build menu specifies that inter-system supply links don't require fuel. I can't see the supply ship in any case, so wouldn't know how to check...

One thing that does irk me a bit is missions where despite having a weapon that will stun people the game doesn't let you take them alive and you have to kill them. Bit of a missed opportunity there.

Always assumed they were more for your own internal use to shift things around.

Ok, I am about 110 hours into Starfield. I raved about the game initally but I can certainlly feal fatigue hitting now and to be honest I will be happy when its over now. I don't think it helps that there are so many other games I want to play as well. I am about half way through the final faction mission (Crimson Fleet) and have about 5 main missions left, so I am definitely on the final straight. I have decided there is far too much UN-interesting dialogue in this game. Even the UN-important characters such as receptionists you can ask trivial things like if they enjoy their job. And they drone on about it!! It was fine at first, but after 100 hours I just want to move this along and so I am sticking to just vital dialogue options. Overall I would say I have had a good time with the game, it certainly must be doing something right to keep me invested in 100+ hours. But the lack of exploration does make it feel like I am just fast traveling from point A to point B. It certainly misses that sense of exploration than Skyrim and Oblivion had. The first 50 hours I give this 10/10. The Second 50 hours I give this 8/10. 100 hours + I give this 6/10.
If Bethesda continue with their Creation engine, I don't think I will even entertain the idea of getting Elder Scrolls 6. At times, the game can look stunning, mostly some of the interiors and the incredible level of detail. But mostly, the game is overshadowed by some really outdated game design and mechanics. It really is a mixed bag.

When I did the first stealth quest I hadn't put any points into the stealth skill, so didn't have the on screen display and had to guess if I was hidden (which didn't work so well!) For the second one I had that skill, I dismissed my follower and had the stealth suit on and even quaffed something that makes you stealthier, but just found the level a bit frustrating to navigate and kept falling down into the toxic gas or whatever it was. So anyway, I started blasting.

Always assumed they were more for your own internal use to shift things around. When I accepted the mission it prompted me to build the supply link. Furthermore where I picked the mission up there's a control console which populates with the supply link once established. Sounding more and more like a glitch to me. Unless my supply ship was taken out by pirates. Which would be awesome. In order to use the supply links you must first rid the system of pirates... So many missed opportunities. Also, a general criticism, everything is always so damn bright. It's only really the caves that require the use of the helmet light. "Abandoned refinery". All the lights are still working...
