Had a game of Deadlock last night. Good fun, lots of characters, 4 abilities per player but many, many perks to choose from that will take a while to get your head around. There are probably some broken builds about already, the balancing for that game is going to be a bit of headache for Valve. Will have a few more games tonight.

Rise of the Ronin is getting its hooks into me, slowly but surely.
I think it's the most situational game I've ever played. Like, I know I'd be having *much* less fun with it if I'd been anywhere near another Ubi-style open-world game this year, as it's just so clichéd and unimaginative in that regard...
... But I haven't, so instead of boring me to tears with its "mile wide, inch deep" approach to world design, side quests, sandbox busywork, and whatnot, it's actually scratching an itch of sorts.

Fallout 76.
It's actually all right, I seem to recall it wasn't on launch, or maybe I was still fed up after FO4's base building so totally decided to ignore it.
Quite enjoying roaming about in the wasteland again (minimal base building done, obvs).
It's still a janky, janky game with the same character models, but there's enough funny little scenarios to find and that 'I wonder what's over there' urge is still oh so strong.

Slowly approaching the end of rise of tomb raider.
I am really enjoying it in spite of the winter setting which I generally don't like. Greenery over snow covered forest for me.
I'm not going to 100% it but I am doing all side quests and tombs. Having a blast with the game. Also need to do the dlc.
Been also reading a bit of tomb raider reddit.
There is a lot of hatred for current trilogy, Survivor Lara.
Too much fighting too little tombs, too much story.
Which i find interesting as its opposite what I am enjoying in these games.
Fights are good, fun, and can be tense and at the same time there is plenty of peaceful progression. Tombs could definitely be longer but at the same time spending hours in one tomb would bore me. But little more complexity to traps and gimmicks as well as multiple ways to solve them would be a welcome change.
Story is what I'm really playing those games for as without it I wouldn't have motivation to progress further. Cool complex tomb is fun but if it does not contribute to story and lore it's really a side gig. Can't be main part of the game.
I never played old games so I don't have direct comparison to them but modern TR is fun...
So far.

The first game of the trilogy didn't really get the balance right and was just pretty much all fighting and falling on jagged rocks. It was definitely better after that though. I loved the last two games, especially the geothermal valley in Rise.

MGS 5
I've rolled credits and am now in chapter 2 where the padding has begun. I'm having to replay previous missions with modifiers, and they're thrown in so lazily that I'm even having to sit through their cut scenes again despite them not making any sense given where the story is now at. Pretty unforgivable that. I'd already read that the ending goes downhill and is disappointing, so I was kinda ready for this. Despite all that I'm still very much enjoying the moment to moment gameplay, so will see it through. Feels like a classic case of a brilliant 30 hour game needlessly stretched out to 60+ hours.

I loved the last two games, especially the geothermal valley in Rise. I mentioned how at the start of Rise Lara is shot at, blown up and has mountain trying to kill her. But they tone that in rest of the game compared to TR2013. Way less torture of poor miss Croft I hear shadows has the weakest storyline. And is considered weaker than other two in general.

lukasz I strongly recommend the Temple of the Witch DLC. Great fun, and kind of even darker than the main game. RE: Shadow Of TR is my most favorite of the three, great visuals, tombs are more complex IMHO and there is lots more fighting. But YMMV.

lukasz I strongly recommend the Temple of the Witch DLC. Great fun, and kind of shift in tone from the main game. I do have it. Was really fun. Got awesome costume with skull which I used for rest of the game until trying some other ones just before entering the lost city. I have the game from epic giveaway. I think it's complete one. It also had manor dlc but I didn't do it yet.

What story there is is pretty basic and generic (stop the end of the world by finding the objects that are in tombs), the combat is naff, main thing you're there for is the exploration, acrobatics and solving the tombs. It sounds like the newer games slowly moves back to having good tombs over the course of the trilogy.

I'm now four hours or so into Rise of the Ronin, and... [pauses for dramatic effect] [realises that no-one gives a shit] [feels sad] ... It's good. Not *very* good, and certainly not *great*, but good all the same. Combat is fun. More simplistic than that of the Niohs, Wo Long, and Stranger of Paradise (so far, at least), but it's still Team Ninja melee combat, and those guys n' gals don't know how to make bad fighting mechanics. The world's pretty Ubisoft-y, albeit with less icon vomit on the map. Riding around on my goofy-looking horse, petting cats and unlocking fast-travel points, is quite soothing. Accurate. I've taken to unarmed combat in all but the most overwhelming situations and I have less than no idea what the "story" is doing - I have made entirely anti shogunate choices and have still somehow ended up fighting what I thought were my "colleagues" at times, but it's kinda fun to play and easy to lose a few hours in.

No Man's Sky
Playing on Gamepass. Have put about 30 hours into this recently having bounced off it a couple of times previously. The new update really has made it more interesting.
Loving building bases, the tech tree and the vehicles. Plenty to see and it is frequently beautiful. I even tried it out on VR but the control scheme is completely different with the Q2 controllers so I might see if I can just play VR with the normal controller.
Very much worth checking out.

Layers of Fear
I've gone back to this after buying it last year. I'd already played the originals and just got distracted halfway through this. As it's darker in the nights and mornings now (boo) I'm starting to play scary stuff again (yay).
You can argue how much actual game is here, but I love it anyway. The visuals are bloody amazing and I just love all the trippy shit they do. You've very much got to be in the mood and I am right now as it's very undemanding. I can just navigate slowly through it and enjoy the ride without having to use my poor tired brain or my poor tired reflexes.
The segment that's lifted from LoF2 gets bonus points for all The Shining, Se7en and other film homages. They aren't clever, they aren't subtle, but they are cool.
Also messing about with Silent Hill Homecoming to get me in the mood for SH2 in October. It's very much "You've seen the film now play the game!" but it still looks pretty good and whilst there's a lot it gets wrong, there's enough to like in there as well, and I do rate it overall.

Shadow is amazing and easily my favourite of the survivor trilogy. Setting is brilliant and there's some great characters in there. Lara's character is much stronger as well
It's a shame Eidos Montreal didn't get to keep working on the series. The whole concept of 'survivor' Lara was lame to begin with and it got toned down with each game until it's pretty much ignored in Shadow, similar to the gore/torturing Lara stuff

See I actually hated Shadow. I remember you playing it before AA and loving it so thought, after I liked the first two, that I would really like it.
Didn't.
Well. I liked some of it but the whole flabby middle section in the city with Lara poncing around in tribal gear was fucking horrendous. Quite surprised that something like that got made in this day and age as well.

Well, it's Tomb Raider- cultural insensitivity is part of its DNA
And I don't tell you your games are shit. Well, not much. Silent Hill 2 isn't even out yet

Lara has always been a psychopath though, so I doubt wearing tribal clothes is gonna register.
Maybe all the shit she apparently goes through at the start of the Survivor series is what turned her into what she became.

Besides, I'm used to people saying the games I like are shit. I revel in it.

What is the shittiest game you liked in last 12 months? Now there's a question that might be worth its own topic... Stranger of Paradise for me. For certain degrees of shitty, at least, the gameplay is great and build depth is ridiculous

What the best game you've played in the last 12 months that you didn't like?
If you played it in the last 12 months, it's definitely Dead Cells

Baldur's Gate 3.
Playing it for the 4th time and I'm still having a blast.
It wins the both the best and worst awards cos It's the only new game I've played in the last 12 months.
