So I managed to survive my first encounter with Lu Bu, which was nice.
I was level 50 as it happens, and thanks to this thread had slotted my last 3 points in water bringing it up to 14.
Glad I didn't have to respec and have to go back to that awful fucking hidden village to look for it.
And I summoned someone at the boss gate. It was a decent fight, glad I took the back up for the last minute revive.

Quick question, if anyone knows: while in a mission (I'm currently outside Lu Bu) if you travel back at the village and then return to your current battlefield, you respawn at the last visited flag; what if you travel to that special wizard arena, do you then return to the last visited flag or at the beginning of the battlefield?
/curious to try the wizard mastery but anxious to replay the Lu Bu mission

Presumably as long as you can clear the mission you're good.

That said, already cleared missions might work differently. Going from that same main mission (now cleared) to the village and back (or indeed from that mission to another and back) seems to reset progress each time...
A good thing to be fair, since it allows for Tiger Seal and Cup of Cordiality (bond raising item) farming among others (and you bet I'm using and abusing that before it gets patched!) but retaining progress may only be a thing for incomplete missions.

I’m wondering that. If I go back to find all the flags and have to start from scratch then that will remain an achievement unachieved.
But equally, it would be a bit weird to go back to a mission you’ve done and be plopped back at the boss room again.

And, yeah, I fully respecced to water for Lu Bu 2: Electric Lu Buloo and that ice storm spell does subsequently make the game pretty trivial. I levelled up a pair of pretty boss dual swords and everything is getting melted.

You could just complete whatever mission you're on and go back for any flags you missed afterwards. Can't lose progress on your current mission if you haven't progressed on your current mission Although of course you'd probably have to complete the mission you're missing flags on. And if said mission is a ballache...

I’m by no means a completist, so if I arrive at the end with 6/7 flags (as happens literally 99% of the time) so be it.

The pc version has died so spectacularly that I can no longer play anything on game pass as it's killed ms gaming services. Currently having to try and and get it working again but it's not looking good at the moment.
Lu Bu has basically won at this stage 🤣

For anyone interested in the Tiger Seal and bond Cup farming methods I mentioned above, here they are: Tiger Seal: start the first main mission of part 2, "Two Chivalrous Heroes". Run forward. There is a Tiger Seal right next to the first battle flag. Pick it up, travel somewhere else and back, repeat as needed. No enemies at all. Cup of Cordiality: start the third main mission of part 2, "The Demon Fort of the Yellow Heaven", then follow this path from the start of the mission: www.xbox.com/en-GB/play/media/EXD9WTW7Z4 (excuse the choppiness in places, it's only in the recording for some reason) Fair warning, this is essentially a suicide run (there is a battle flag nearby if you can defeat the enemies but it's honestly more trouble than it's worth) so take care not to go in with Qi to lose. Happy farming!

Genichiro, hmm, I mean, Lu Bu is down
As already said, it is truly an epic fight, an advanced tutorial on how to play the game, a rite of passage if you will. You had to be cautious and aggressive in equal measure, you had to concentrate, to learn the signs, to anticipate his next move. It, also, felt to me like the first boss fight that made sense when his move-set, his strategy were concerned; the previous bosses felt too floaty, way too random (especially the clones one).
I loved it... eventually

Congrats! I just got past him too. My strategy was a bit different. As the colossal prick finally bit the dust, I breathed a massive sigh of relief, shed a tear and thanked my son.

Definitely my favourite fight of the game so far. Beat a boss yesterday that seemed to have to ability to constantly spam lightening. The sword was always lightening, he had what seemed like never ending combos and then would make half the room lightening. Beat him second time via pure luck perfect deflecting over and over. I bet if I failed on that 2nd attempt he would have taken another dozen goes.

He crops up as a duel sub-mission later so you can fight him infinitely if you want.
My favourite sub-mission duel so far has been has been scrapping with the girl in the hat who was absolutely fucking useless accompanying you on the previous mission. Oh, you stand there and ignore enemies when we are on the road but one on one youre the tasmanian devil? This game is so stupid.

Ha yeah the balancing is all over the place. It's a piece of piss and then randomly it is nearly impossible, then back to being a piece of piss again. Although incredibly, it's still so blooy enjoyable I don't care.
I've done loads of dual missions and they have been all so easy that I've barely noticed them. Compare this to Nioh where every dual is tough and memorable... The only one that's been an issue is the hilariously ill-judged three pricks one.

This isnt a flex but most of the game is actually pretty easy or if not easy, certainly manageable. If you go through sub-missions, keep your gear levelled and cash your mana out so you dont lose it, youre always at a higher power level than you need to be so barring one or two lu bu shaped humps I think this is much easier than Nioh.
Certainly once you deal with Lu Bu, its gravy from there. You have all the tools you need to just kerb stomp everyone from then on.

It's kind of a relief tbh. Probably why I'm just so out and out enjoying it so much. I don't get that same dread I get with other souls-likes when I'm about to do a boss fight or whatever. Just charge in and deflect the fuck out of everything.

I have a great time until the bosses and then I immediately lose interest as they are all a bit shit, even the easier ones. I hope one day the go for a game that just dumps most the bosses off and just make a big world to explore.

Talking of difficulty I don't think I've died during a level for maybe 8 levels or more now. I think maybe my last death was on the Lu bu mission or maybe even before that and the bosses go down between 1st-3rd attempt. I'm not complaining though as during that first boss I felt like binning it as I didn't fancy another nioh rage fest. This game actually makes you feel like a boss which is a nice change.

Minor complaint, but coming to this from how satisfying Elden Ring's stagger "THUNK!"s were, they could stand to give the stagger/critical hit sound effects here a bit more impact IMO.

There was only one boss after Lu Bu which gave me trouble and that’s because I had literally 0 lightning resistance which meant that with certain moves, if I didn’t perfectly parry the entire combo it’d kill me in one hit.

New patch out... It now automatically restocks arrows etc when resting at flags! \o/
Apparently the three cunts mission has had it's difficulty tweaked as well but I've not looked at it yet.

I’m at the final boss and I literally just worked out how to manually restock arrows from the blacksmith, so that’s very helpful. I’ve got literally hundreds just sat there in my store room because I kept buying too many when I bought more.
