Also, Lu Bu is absolutely a boss where you shouldn't use reinforcements IMO. You might get an extra window or two to use the tip, sure, but it's not a good enough incentive to counterbalance not knowing where his attacks are going. Better to just learn him and duel him properly, tip or not.

JuniorFE I know our opinions on the Nioh games diverged on occasion, especially on the topic of bullshit, but I'm 100% in agreement with you here. Lu Bu is a bastard, but he's my kind of bastard - a fight that's tough but fair. Thanks very much for the tip. I've given up for now - not in a rage-quit kind of way, more of an, "If I don't turn off the PS5 and unwind for a bit, I'll be up all night, riddled with adrenaline" kind of way! - but I'll have another crack tomorrow. I haven't got him much below 50% health so far, but that actually felt like pretty decent progress after getting utterly bodied in my first few attempts. (That was playing solo, by the way.)

Oh, and sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations with the final DLC boss - as you'll no doubt recall from my diatribes during the Niohs, I can relate!

Oh, and sorry to hear about your trials and tribulations with the final DLC boss - as you'll no doubt recall from my diatribes during the Niohs, I can relate! Honestly, he wouldn't be nearly as bad if there was at least something he was even slightly vulnerable to... Stat debuffs at least stick, but even then he has all the other layers of BS to contend with... Fighting Cowboy had a ridiculous stream on him where, even getting the first phase down "easily" (relatively) with a nice weapon I'm pretty sure I don't have, the second phase just piles on even more crazy (although at least he has more openings to actually do something to him then)...

Speaking of Cowboy, I'm kind of heartened to see that even he struggled with Lu Bu!

Embarrassingly enough, it wasn't until I watched Cowboy's walkthrough video - with subtitles enabled - that I realised Lu Bu's horse is called Red Hare. I thought he was talking about me. "My [character's] hair is blonde, dumbass!" Guess I was the dumbass all along...

Lu Bu is dead! (Well, not dead - he flees on horseback at the end of the fight - but I beat him, nonetheless.)
That was the best boss fight I've done since I first played Sekiro.

From the best boss in the game to the worst - thanks, Team Ninja. Just when I was thinking we could be bros after all!

From the best boss in the game to the worst - thanks, Team Ninja. Just when I was thinking we could be bros after all! Taotie, aye? Welcome to the Lady Osakabe/Daidara Bocchi of the game... Unfortunately I don't really have many tips here except to go for the legs. Not that I'd be in any state to share them at the moment anyway, because...

Major thanks to Fighting Cowboy for the idea of using Taishi Ci's longsword Premier Virtue (it has to be that one specifically, for the Lamenting Blade Martial Art -very appropriately named, all things considered-), and to the RNG for gifting me a 6* one, enough good armour pieces with Nuwa's Grace on them, and keeping his BS to a minimum on the winning attempt (I somehow had a pot use, all my Dragon's Cure Powders and Yinglong's revive left over, at that)

Don't get me wrong, I still think he's way overtuned compared to even the rest of the DLC, let alone the base game (his second phase has a red attack grab that, if it doesn't outright kill you, inflicts you with all five fucking elemental debuffs unless you're protected, for crying out loud). If I didn't embed Martial Arts Damage and Spirit Damage on everything I could, I'd probably still be cursing him, his ancestors and his progeny for ten generations... But... He's dead

JuniorFE Yay! Seriously, I'm so chuffed for you, I've forgotten all about my Taotie rage (well, almost).
Very well done.

Hey, if I could beat that rat bastard, you can beat Taotie and everything after it too (At least, until you get to Yuan Shu yourself... God help you then, because I can't )

Yuan Shu, go fuck your corpse with my greatsword, you TWAT Well, aren't videogames supposed to be a relaxing entertainment? So much anger, jeez Oh, the victory lap of every single side mission afterwards was quite relaxing, believe me Even had a duel where Shame it's locked behind Yuan Shu... And anger? No anger to be found in that post, in fact if you weren't asleep you'd probably have heard me cheering As for the rest of the time I was fighting him... Well, get to the fight yourself and then get back to me

As for the obligatory video, as per usual the extremely limiting 3 minutes only caught half the fight (the PS5 is kicking the Xbox's arse in the video saving department, just saying), but here: www.xbox.com/play/media/zLkrJHkRkSThe red attack I block in the second phase is the oneshot grab I mentioned... And once again, praise RNJesus for getting him to do his stupid lightning dance attack thrice (among other lucky breaks), leaves him more open than a dog's mouth when expecting a treat (I feel like I should apologize to Taishi Ci for not reviving him when Yuan Shu was down, but sometimes getting the Fatal Attack is more important than being nice... And he probably would have been forced to retreat around the point Danfu did, anyway )

Pfft. Apparently after my side mission victory lap, my save file's playtime sits at a very nice 69 hours 00 minutes exactly

After tonight's Wo Long sessions, I'm starting to see why Nick said that the AI is... well, sub-optimal.
First up, during the Toastie fight, Liu Bei spent every single one of my attempts standing amid the beast's AOE attacks (fire and poison), while getting repeatedly stomped upon. He has all the self-preservation of a depressed lemming. (It was funny at first, but the novelty wore off eventually.)
After I'd finally beaten this boss and moved on, I found myself being invaded by an NPC during a subsequent mission; however, he didn't actually show up, so I went looking for him. I found the hapless idiot running into the side of a building, a look of determination on his face - seems his pathing had bugged out.

Yay on the Taotie kill Gotta say though, while I have seen some iffy AI from the game, an invader borking that much is a new one... Usually the jerks will hunt you down across half the dang stage

In fairness, that's easily the worst technical hiccup I've encountered - most of them involve the AI (of allies and enemies alike) being brainless, rather than broken.
Judging by the combat alone, Wo Long is probably my favourite of the Team Ninja Soulslikes; however, it's inferior to both Niohs when it comes to level design, narrative, enemy variety, and so on.

It’s got a lot of good ideas and I hope they get another go at it. I wasn’t satisfied in the end, mostly because of engine problems and a seeming lack of depth in the move lists, but they’re so good as a team at iteration and reacting to feedback I’m sure their next try will be great.

Yeah, I'd love to see a sequel.
In the meantime, I'm cautiously excited for Rise of the Ronin (although I'm kind of hoping they'll delay it - putting out a PS5-exclusive Team Ninja game on the same day as the multiplatform Dragon's Dogma II seems daft to me).

I’ll pick that up on PS5, as I suspect any PC version later would run terribly.

I'm getting a bit tired of the recycled enemies in Wo Long, now - I must've fought that bloody crocodile mini-boss at least half a dozen times.
That said, much like Ghost of Tsushima before it, the combat is so much fun that I don't mind overlooking its shortcomings in other areas.

To be honest, wherever there was a crocodile near a respawn flag, I used to farm my heart out for level-ups
