I had a pretty good run just now where I duplicated the wee joker in the first round and just played as many 2s as possible. Think it ended with 500 chips for each of them and I just had a couple of mult + jokers and a polychrome to complement the chips. I had a +gold joker using up a slot for the entire run and still barely struggled until ante 10. I normally do focus on a couple of mult X jokers at the end and a mult + that grows, but this run made me rethink it a bit.
Just unlocked the plasma deck too, so chips are definitely a priority now!

Broader question for you Balarinas: where do you stand on the +Chips Jokers? Do you always bin them off in favour of +Mult and xMult Jokers like I do? I figured that multiplying is always better than addition, and then basically pump the +Chip via Planet cards. It depends. The flat chip increase ones don't always scale very well (and stuff like Ice Cream gets *worse* the more you use it). But sometimes on higher difficulties you need something to help you survive the early antes while your hands are still low level, and those Jokers help you do that. That said, don't swear off them completely later on. Square Joker is absolutely amazing if you get it early and keep proccing it, it will be worth loads of chips by the end if you activate it every hand.

Yeah, I had Square Joker last night really early on, but my build was too weird and I died by about Ante 4 before it really got going.

The great thing about Square Joker is that your hand only needs to have 4 cards in it to activate. They don't need to be scoring cards! So you can get it pretty easily if you're focusing on high card/pair things.

Fucken Zodiac deck. Cannot get it working. Thought it sounded amazing on paper but just end up with terrible Joker selections because the shop is flooded with Tarots, Planets etc. Gahh.

Yeah, that's probably the hardest deck to win with for me. I think I eventually got very lucky and got a joker that gives multi for every tarot card used, then got the discount vouchers and extra shop slots and went crazy buying everything. The fool tarot was especially handy as it procs the joker twice.

The hardest deck I've won a run with so far was the black one. You get fewer hands to win, less money (because of the fewer hands), and the extra joker slot is meaningless if you don't find jokers early on. Or they're all shit.
The green deck was the one I beat orange stake with. I don't know that it's the best one, but not having interest meant that I didn't have to worry about saving money.

I just tried the black deck yesterday. I also got two negatives, so could have 7 jokers, which worked nicely with my joker that increased the multiplier for each joker I had. Unfortunately, getting even my modest main hand of a pair was not easy to do when you are only drawing 5 cards. I immediately lost the run...

On a related note, I wish the game was a little more generous in giving you jokers in the first couple of shops. Or at least if it had something like the Whale bonus in Slay the Spire, to incentivise sticking with a run for a bit if you get a bad start.
Because right now, especially on higher difficulties, a lot of runs are like
1st shop: no jokers, just a tarot card and a planet card for 4 of a kind
2nd shop: joker that gives me +50 chips to play a straight, when I can't easily play straights
Barely beat the ante boss
3rd shop: oh hey, we heard you like playing 4 of a kind, how about a joker that rewards that eh. Oh and a tarot card too
Dead
It just feels bad to reset so often. I want to be able to come back from a bad situation, that's why I like these kinds of games!

I'm pretty guilty of spamming the new run button until I get a beneficial first skip, especially on higher difficulties where the first small blind is utterly pointless to play. I'd much rather skip and get free items at the next shop/$15 when beating the boss blind etc.
The plasma deck is ridiculously OP in the early game, so you can afford to skip as much as you want for the first few antes.

Yeah, I'm amazed how polished the game is in general but I think this is fair. Wonder if it'll get updated to address this.

I finally did it this morning. Limped over the line with a pair/two-pair deck cobbled together shop-by-shop and eventually drawing into Steel cards just to give myself some decent multipliers. Every round felt like the whole thing could fall apart if I didn't draw a Face card or a couple of my Steels. Memorable run I guess, if not exactly as fun as usual.

It's headed to android and iphone, the developer has confirmed.
He's also said he's in for development for the long haul, and he's working on a big balance update following feedback from players.

Yeah, that really doesn't sound like a wise purchase for me...
In fairness I don't have it in me to unlock everything a third time. It's a ballache to go back to the switch version with barely half of the jokers unlocked.

Ante 12 \o/
Slayed by a 560million blind lol.
Finally put to good use the Joker that doubles probability cards.
Very annoyingly because of stupid distraction by my mother, I managed to hit LB by accident on the final blind and delete one of my jokers... I was never going to get to 560million, but I reckon I'd have done 300mill or so. All because she was banging on about passing me some non-essential letters... Grrrr

I am so addicted to this game man. 50+ hours already. It's perfect on the Steam Deck, it has a crazy amount of content and it's mentally non-taxing in such a way that I can basically play it almost on autopilot.

I got the Anaglyph deck tonight. Ended up with 10 Jokers because I managed to use the Deck ability, which gives a Double Tag after beating Boss Blind, in combination with a tag that provides Negative Jokers. Had a bonkers mashup of a deck that was doing both straights and flushes. Fell at about 8 million sadly but it was a fun run. Had $200 at one stage...

Playing on my Deck. It’s fun but I’m pretty bad at it.

Playing on my Deck. It’s fun but I’m pretty bad at it. Glad I'm not the only one! Best I've done is get to the boss of ante 6, I think. It also happened to be my second or third run, where I got 3 jokers all about straights - shortcuts (let's you skip ranks in a straight, e.g. 7, 9, 10, q, k would count as a straight), add more chips for every straight played and straights can be done with just 4 cards. In the following 7-10 hours of playing I've not really been able to get much going that doesn't run out of steam by ante 4 or 5. I think I need to play more with manipulating the actual deck, but options for doing that don't seem very reliable.

Blimey... And while you're still on ante 8 too! I love those games where you're smashing through even that bastard violet blind without breaking a sweat.
I'm at pretty much the same point in the game with deck unlocks/collection completion on Steam and Switch now after deciding to focus on the Switch due to my commute. Filling out the rest of the collection can be an absolute ballache, as you might not see a certain joker for ages, then when you finally do you've got a perfect build set up and don't want to ditch anything to make room. 55 and 30+ hours played respectively...

Yeah the 361 mil hand came from me hunting for the flush five planet card so I turned my deck into all mult queens using tarot cards and the magic deck.
I think hand type generally only matters early game sometimes, if you can get a chip joker, a couple of mult jokers and then 2 good xmults you can usually just high card your way to victory.

The purple stake is absolutely kicking my ass. I'm going at it with Chequered Deck and Flush games, but I can only get to Ante 6 or 7 where the Blinds get brutally high. Early game is spent balancing money with hunting for relevant Jokers, whilst not pouring so much money into buying things that my Interest is horrendously low for the later rounds. Brutal stuff.
Wondering if I should switch to a different deck... Chequered has always been pretty powerful, but it's not a very flexible play style, so highly dependent on what Jokers surface. Thinking maybe a deck that synergises with High or Two Pair strategies where there is more flexibility to be creative with Jokers.

Also still completely hooked. Upto about 60 hours. The different deck and stake types really up the challenge in an exciting way. I haven't really even delved into the Challenges yet.
Lots of content. And the dev has said he has lots up his sleeve in future. Can see myself playing this for a long time.

I fell off it pretty quickly once I beat orange stake. Partly for the reasons I described earlier, partly because I just wanted to play something else.
But I'm glad the guy is continuing to work on it, I'll happily come back if a couple of the balance issues are tinkered with.
