I would still like to see a remastered Yakuza 1&2 HD (the Japanese only WiiU and PS3 ports of the original 2 games). Never going to happen though due to Kiwami 1 and 2... I guess there is always PCSX2 and the Yakuza 1 Restoration mod for a fresh replay.
Kenzan would he cool too but started that on PS3 (and need to get back to it one day)

Still got kiwami 1 to finish, k2 unplayed and after trying to remember whether I played 6 or not, discovered it’s still in the cellophane so I guess not

Kenzan is the one I want most, but I understand why they went with Ishin first.
I'd also play Dead Souls remastered if it happened. I skipped it originally because I was mad that they skipped Kenzan initially and gave us that goofy ass spin off, but as I've watched videos in the following years, it's exactly the goofy premise that makes me want to play it.

I know people find it easier to play with the dub but one of the big things with this version is they’ve brought in some of the screen actors they had in RGG0. Although I’ll miss George Takahashi this time around. Edit: I think the main reason is a bit more boring though: this is a relatively low budget test project which is primarily to “try out” the unreal engine to see if it’s worth using in the future. They’re porting a relatively small scope game to it and adding a bit extra to keep the fans happy - the budget will be limited. Many of the characters that are being replaced with the RGG7 crew are the celeb actor cameos from the original. I personally feel that's fine though? Yakuza 8 is still in development and yet we're still getting 2 games next year, this and one which has direct ties into the story of 8. Fans know this is a remake of an existing spin off, for many this is a new game considering it never got released here.

Oh sure - I’m just putting it into context of it being a relatively low stakes/budget remake, as much a technology test as anything. So a dub might be a little too much in terms of budget.

Currently playing Yakuza 6 and it's rough going. I know these games are known for their long cut scenes but I'm now on chapter 5 and am still spending literally 95% of my time watching rather than playing. Occasionally I get to walk Kiryu a little way down a street to trigger the next interminable cut scene. I wouldn't necessarily mind this if the story wasn't so boring! And the dialogue is glacially paced and seems to go on forever. Even my wife who doesn't usually pay attention to my gaming noticed it and commented on it. The few side quests I've done so far have also seemed to lack the humour and playfulness of the prior games.
Urgh if I wasn't so attached to Kiryu I'd be abandoning this. But, having played 0 to 5 I'm committed now. Maybe I'm getting burnt out? Just gonna beeline the main story I think. Hope it picks up as right now it's my least favorite Yakuza game by far and an absolute slog. Will take a looong break before starting Like A Dragon.

I still enjoyed 6 but you will be pleas d to know it is one of the shorter games in the series and does get appropriately 'Yakuza batshit crazy' as you go on. I still need to pre-order Ishin. No day one editions or the like this time it seems. I have booked a 4 day weekend off in release week though so hopefully...

That looks great. Finished Y6 yesterday. Big disappointment and easily my least favourite of the series. The story was boring and the antagonists were way underdeveloped to the point where I was actually skipping cutscenes during the final chapter because I just didn't care. What a waste of a great cast of beloved characters: Majima, Saejima, Dojima all but absent, Haruka in a coma and Akiyama hiding in the sewers for the whole game... Really glad Kiryu is coming back in future games as he deserves better. Anyway, after trying and quickly abandoning Jed Fallen Order I decided to fire up Like A Dragon. Even after a few minutes it feels fresh and interesting with the new protagonist and turn based combat. Gonna enjoy this I think.

Just get ready for like 3 hours before you get to do anything. And I mean anything. Lot of cutscenes ahead before it “starts” in Yokohama.

I may have mentioned once or twice how much I love this series, but Like a Dragon really blew me away. I wanted to hate it, kiryu is the best and a game without him just felt wrong, but it still managed to win me over for yet another 10/10 game.
Looking back it is amazing how I am not burnt out on the series. In 18 months I did Yakuza Zero through 6, plus both Judgements and Like a Dragon. I have never in my life fallen in love with a series so badly.
And worst, now I have also got a series x, they are all there on gamepass to replay... all those shiny achievements beckoning me to restart after all those trophies on the Ps5. I actually installed zero last week and quickly uninstall it as there are so many other games to play and I don't want to get sucked in again.

That's very disappointing, from the Gamespot review. I've recently played the second Judgment, and it really is in another league.
"This new version of Ishin is faithful to what the original was when it came out in 2014 and uses an identical gameplay foundation from the older series entries. So, while it's rebuilt on Unreal Engine 4, it plays much like Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami. However, that's a noticeable step back after five other entries in the modernized Dragon Engine--especially coming off the latest in Lost Judgment, which featured the best brawler combat system RGG has made thus far. Playing through Ishin, it's clear how much the series has evolved, with better fluidity of movement, and how that manifests in a more robust combat experience. Even though I can enjoy it for what it is, I had to place the game in context and keep my expectations in check."

I tried the demo and liked how it felt. The one where he twirls around with a gun and katana and just combos and dodges felt particularly good.

I’ll be picking this up today. Been waiting about 10 years for it. 😅 Will probably go Series X with it. Runs about the same on either platform. Sega still doesn’t use HDR so the big difference I noticed was that if you have your PS5 set so it doesn’t switch between SDR and HDR (basically default launch settings), it looks a big darker and more dramatic. Looks kind of nice, actually. But the button prompts are just easier to understand on Xbox with the bright colors per button, versus Sony going just black and white for everything this generation. Also the controller feels better.

Quick very early first impressions, I’m not sure I like the move to Unreal Engine. It has that same Unreal claymation look to everything, as well as the dithered post processing in things like water. On top of that, there seems to be some stutter I didn’t experience in the demo, and it seems to be running around 1440p to reach 60fps, just like the Dragon Engine, so there isn’t even an optimization benefit from the move.
Edit: Oh man, there’s even texture streaming issues. It’s not 360 bad, like it takes a split second, but you can see it on camera cuts. Unreal Engine bad.
Also as an aside, there’s a group called the joshi in this, and my wrassle lovin’ ass expect some bad ass ladies.

Still waiting for mine, but why it got Kiwamid rather than nust localised and potentially PS5 upgraded (and ported to Xbox amd PC of course) remains a mystery. Kenzan needs a Kiwami style upgrade more, but not sure if they will he brave enough to do that. They missed their best chance to just localise this around Ghost of Tsushima release showing the samurai style games were popular again. I do still have the original if I ever want to compare though. (Didn't get around to properly playing it as I was playing through Kenzan first). At least we got a localisation though as it was looking more and more dubious.

Mine arrived today and played through the first chapter and the start of chapter 2 (up to finding the karaoke bar). I have noticed the odd idiosyncrasy with the visuals but it has mostly seemed fine (PS5 version). Shpuld be fun to finally play through it.

That last karaoke song is quite funny considering it is one of the hardest note charts in the entire series, reading the lyrics as to what the song is about and what they decide to use as the visuals in the background as it plays. Determination of steel if you want a perfect score.
Liking this so far, I appreciate that they've added a simple glossary considering how rooted in Japanese history it is. Combat is very much like Yakuza 0 but the ranged options with the gun give it some variety.

Yeah, getting a 90+ on that song took a while, the rest were easy Up to Chapter 6 now I think but done a lot of the bigger mini-games. Enjoying it though, even if the side stories aren't quite up to the usual quality (it still has some fun ones though). Performance-wise the only thing ng I am seeing on PS5 is a split second of detail loading when you first load tue main map after being in a building.

I'm about half way through Like A Dragon. It's great, though I think not quite reaching the heights of 0 for me. The business management game is kinda boring and too easy once you know how the shareholder meetings work. But the combat, the wacky enemy designs, and the various jobs with their comedy movesets are just wonderful, and that wholesome humour that really sets this series apart is present in abundance throughout. Also, recognising various parts of Yokohama was an absolute treat.
