This still sounds awesome, but I'm getting a bit worried all the DLC and Season Passes will make it essentially like Fortnite for my kids... where there's always another skin or another emote that they just *have to have*!  |

Don't think it's going to be like that. Seems like there's 3 bits of DLC planned but there isn't an in-game real world currency to buy skins or anything.
That being said how slow and random it is to unlock new cars does make it feel like it's setup to switch on micro transactions at some point.

Also me and my boy were looking through his Hot Wheels cars last night to see if he had any of the ones we had unlocked which was pretty cool.

The car unlock pace seems good to me. Played for an hour or so and I had enough coin to buy a couple of featured cars after dismantling dupes. Any quicker and they'd just be meaningless. Frog - this probably won't have huge long term appeal. Feels like something you'd rinse for a week or two. Can't see myself still playing it when Forza comes around (which isn't a complaint) |

I honestly don't know how much kids are going to get out of it long term. The difficulty and gameplay seem a little bit at odds with the licence. It's actually kind of set of a bit of a collection bug in my head more than anything. I've already found myself looking at sets I can get my lad for christmas to get him into it. and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't already got a little bit obsessed with my own digital collection.

Yeah some of the more complex course it was throwing at me last night seemed way too hard for young kids (they were great though). And the lack of rubberbanding makes it very difficult to catch up if you come off the course.
It's pitched perfectly for me but young kids would really struggle with it I think.

I dunno - back in the 8bit days some of us were kids, all games were bastard hard by default, and it didn't do us any harm.

I don't know if it's been pitched this way in the marketing as I haven't really seen much but it feels more like an advert to parents and people nostalgic about when they used to collect matchbox cars than it is the next Fortnite.
Job done with me though. The quality of the game has made such an impression on me that I'm already thinking about gently elbowing my child in to getting a little collection going so I can live vicariously through him.

I switched one of the boss races to easy last night as I couldn't bloody win the thing to progress any further, and easy is exactly that. So I reckon kids should be able to cope with that.

Yeah it's pretty obscure at first but once you clock the descrpitions to unlock the node most seem pretty self explanitory.

Yeah the course builder seems pretty fantastic if you can be arsed with that stuff.
Also it's a full game, why are people gasping at the price? I thought is was pretty cheap.

It's not even like an Alien: Fireteam £40. It's a proper, high quality game that they easily could have asked for £60 for in hindsight. But I think they've got it spot on, IMO. Could easily have been a Destruction Allstars at that price.
