Every video on YouTube seems to show people taking off poly with a heat gun really easily. Appreciate that may be a small sample size to be making my desicion on.
Think I'll try a bit on the back and see what happens. The black is growing on me buy a nitro white with a few scuffs is the dream.

That’s really quite beautiful. And of course Teles are the best guitars too. You should be proud. Thanks man, I’ve lots of guitars but the tele does just “fit” whenever I pick it up. They’re weird- a proper basic bag-o-bits guitar but somehow very much more than the sum of their parts when you play one 👍

It really can be, but iirc there’s a few different types of poly finishes and some of them are just incredibly tough. Luck of the draw. Heat and a scraper is defo the way and, yep- you could try a small bit, perhaps inside a cavity or behind the neck plate, just to see how it behaves.

Are we allowed to talk pianos in here? I picked up a Yamaha keyboard for my boy (13) last xmas, and he's already outgrown it. He's showing fantastic natural aptitude for playing and I want to encourage him and support him by buying a digital piano. What's the general consensus on instrument purchasing these days? Get something that will last or buy cheaper and upgrade as you progress? I ask because I'm currently hovering over a Roland F701 after a bit of research but... ££££. www.roland.com/uk/products/f701/

Binky - that Roland looks very nice, but if you want to save some £££s, then I went for one of these earlier in the year and was very happy with the build quality, tone, and especially the keys. Only has a built-in grand piano sound, but it seems good, and it has MIDI, so can plug into a tablet or laptop and play any sounds you have on there... www.amazon.co.uk/Donner-PLUS-Weighted-Headphones-Semi-open/dp/B0C3QNYRRJNB - currently has a voucher for £120 off, so just over £400 for the compact model, which seems a pretty good deal.

Getting a guitar for xmas which is almost definitely rubbish, but hopefully that won't matter as I'll be too shit for it to be noticeable.
With that in mind, what's a good starting point for learning guitar? I don't really want to jump into anything serious like lessons or make it into hard work. The idea is more to have something mindful and relaxing to unwind with.
(I did a few guitar lessons 20 years ago and got up to being able to play very simple songs with chords, but I've basically forgotten everything).
Youtube videos?

I second Justin.
Avoid Marty Schwartz IMO. I think he’s a sloppy player himself which won’t help you in the long run.
Justin also has theory stuff should you want it down the line - but learn some chords and songs first.

Has anybody ever played the proliferation of guitar gear raffles?
The biggest one by far seems to be Guitar Gear Giveaway which started as a Facebook based thing around Covid and now appears to be big enough to make full time jobs for three or four people.
I used to play it quite frequently but always had a lingering suspicion about it. I remember for a time the same names did keep winning it and I remember one bloke ended up with probably 8 guitars and a couple of amps. I once ‘won’ a £10 credit which was then swallowed back up.
A mate actually went on a rant about it on their Facey group and whilst I stayed out of it, the defence from the members was almost cult-like.
I’ve always thought the problem is in fact not one of corruption but that those with the will/means to buy multiple tickets have an exponentially better chance of winning. The bloke I mentioned looked rather well off and used to absolutely rinse it.
As an illustration, they have a Murphy Lab LP up now. 2999 tickets at £2.99 - but the ticket limit is a ludicrous 199.
Surely if you bought 50 you’d go from 1/2999 chance to about one in 60? I don’t know how the maths works here, mustard mitt etc etc.
Every now and again despite myself I still drop a ticket or two for specific things (every time a Tonemaster Princeton is on for one) with always the same results.
I’d hate to tally up what I’ve spent on it over the years.

Finished off the 5e3 kit, found the fault after a few months left to one side. Just missed a single jumper wire on the board, got a cabinet to spur me into getting it done. Forgot how loud these bastards are.

I am now working my way through justin guitar beginner course #1. My fingers hurt. But less than they did a day or two ago.
PS/ My cheap strat clone is almost certainly rubbish, not that I'd be able to tell the difference, but I was heartened to see one in a music shop over new year that was priced at 2.5 times what mine was.

Honestly, entry level stuff is SO much better than it was decades ago. Bet it isn’t. Two weeks and the fingers should be good… until you play an acoustic That looks superb Els 👌 What wattage is it?

Bog standard tweed deluxe circuit, 12 watts with a 65w Celestion Creamback in the cab. Sort of their modern greenback flavoured ceramic speaker which is pretty nice, gives me the option of running a bigger head through the tweed cab if I fancy it some day

It only works if your solo is more than five minutes long.

It’s got some boost built in so it suits higher output pickups a bit better, there’s half a dozen trimpots inside to adjust the sound with. Stock settings are what JP uses, you can tweak it to base level Wah if you wanted to I think. Mainly wanted it because of the chrome bling and I saw Scott LePage use one at Shepherd’s Bush

Better than expected MoT so I’ve bought an MXR Clone Looper. Arrived Thursday, will post impressions in case anybody is on the market for a loop pedal.
Edit: Arriving Thursday, I don’t have the pedal yet.

it arrived two days early. Board now weighs a ton! Have had to play Tetris to get the layout to work but basically the flow of the chain is tuner in > wah and then all the way to the Univibe. That then feeds under the board into the Tumnus and then it works left to the Echoplex, which then patches under the board into the looper at the bottom left > amp. Frustratingly I don’t have any spare power leads for the supply underneath (Fender Engine Room) so I’ve ordered a pack from Donner from Amazon. Have also run out of the fuzzy side of my Velcro and ideally need a patch of that top left as the compressor and delay are only half way Velcro’d and wobble. The tuner at the same height opposite has a vertical strip of the loop tape underneath it so that’s really secure. Have tested the looper very briefly on a lunch break using the bundled supply but it has one of those dead thin ribbon-y leads that will break so I’m just going to wait for the convenience of having it wired properly to the board. No complaints with it so far.

Thanks. It’s one of the ones Fender released the other year, lovely brushed metal finish. Such a nice finish that when I first got it I tried to stick individual patches of the Velcro on instead of covering it with strips (it’s ineffective). Unlike Pedaltrain, the thing comes with a way of fixing a power supply too - I hate that about Pedaltrain - having to buy brackets separately! So under these there’s basically a really chunky plastic retainer that is tightened with a Phillips screwdriver to just keep the PSU in by pressure. This into a Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb is all I’ll ever want now. Although I am hankering after the Princeton TM to keep out in the bedroom (the Deuxe tends to live downstairs ready to go to the car).

That’s great! I’m just making a pedalboard now, nothing mega, just two rows of four, and it’s a bloody minefield with pedal order, etc. Realised I should probably make a buffer pedal, but that can’t go before a fuzz apparently so I’m going to mount it under the board centrally with the power supply and I can play with where it is in the chain on the fly.
I’ve just finished a Jan Ray (basically a complete rip off of a Timmy) and it does sound bloody great, aside from that I don’t know how I’m ever going to decide what’s a permanent addition 💁♂️

TC have a ‘Bona Fide Buffer’ that’s absolutely tiny and is designed to hide underneath a board or somewhere unobtrusive.
