Love how they're trying to spin it as an exciting new patch that will improve the game, but it's just fixing broken shit. Great job, guys - keep adding all this free content like working quests Why not though? Everyone else does now. Hell Baldur's Gate 3 got praised for putting over 1,000 patches in 1 update.

But they should hold themselves to higher standards given their reputation.
Oh, wait.

I was just thinking of a specific scenario of this game I enjoyed and thought about reinstalling it, then realized I was thinking of No Man’s Sky. I bounced hard off Starfield and haven't played it in months, but strangely it was still responsible for my favourite gaming moment this year... A zero-G gunfight to capture a pirate ship. The game has a ton of potential, but they should have allowed free exploration into uncharted space, given the game is focused around your ship, in the same way Bethesda's other games were focused around your character. I can forgive the bugs, the jank, the poor design decisions, etc. but the heart of the game is missing because any thrill of exploration is completely absent. I'd have happily just tootled around in my ship the entire game, commandeering enemy vessels, a la Black Flag. Maybe landable rocky planets could have been a rarity, a respite from the harshness of space, and a chance to regroup and upgrade your ship.

Yeah, the zero G gunfight (yes, singular) was easily the highlight of the game for me. I suppose I probably could've found more if I'd focussed on taking out grav drives or whatever, but the ship combat was so awful I just couldn't be bothered.

Feels like the difference here is that Baldur's Gate was an already great and critically (and publicly) acclaimed game becoming even better, while Starfield's reception was at least rocky to begin with and the fixes are probably being viewed as related to things that should have been working from the jump (whether that's true or not, we shall see)... (also the Baldur's Gate megapatch wasn't just bugfixes IIRC, there were also new additions and QoL updates aplenty, something that doesn't sound like it's the case here)

I haven’t played in a while and didn’t get to this mission. What series of missions does it form part of?

Larian is a small dev and tbh BG3 looks so much better starfield. While I have not played BG3, seen videos of the amount of depth in the game and ways to complete quests. You don't get that in SF, its just FPS with stats and the usually bethesda naff game engine jank

No, I can’t personally forgive the jank anymore. For such an enormous developer it’s not good enough. Never had been either.

No, I can’t personally forgive the jank anymore. For such an enormous developer it’s not good enough. Never had been either. I stopped giving them a pass from Fallout 4. It looked dated even on release and compared to the Witcher 3 which was around the same time in terms of story, characters , visuals, art direction it was just embarrassing.

Starfield winning "Most Innovative Gameplay" in the 2023 Steam Awards has to be a joke, right? I thought it was a photoshopped screenshot when I saw it, but it's right there on the page store.steampowered.com/steamawards

Somebody got a Porsche, a fancy leather jacket and a 15 year old Thai sex slave behind the scenes.

Isn't it voted for by users? Yeah and check the shortlist. As you'd think BG3 would be UK there but it wasn't a voting option.

Easily and without question the Worst "AAAA" effort I have ever submitted myself to. Bethesda's formula is done, and I am never touching it again. I can't even bring myself to consider a replay of one of their "good" games because this was so transparently lazy that it exposed the entire ecosphere of lazy process that comprises all of their games. Once pretty innovative but hasn't budged an inch or brought anything new in all these years.
Fuck em. Go bust.

What's innovative about taking a Bethesda game and removing the exploration?

It was a new take on a tired formula, or something.

Haha. This thread coming back re-ignited my interested in this game and I’ve managed to polish off the Crimson Fleet / UCSysDef questline, which was actually a lot of fun though the ship section at the Key was not easy. Think I will spend some more time with this game.

I finally got round to finishing that quest the other day. Currently burning my way through the 144 loading screens to get all the powers before I jump into NG+9.

Isn't it voted for by users? It is. For what it's worth Red Dead Redemption 2 won the Labour of Love award despite not being released in 2023 or even having any update. Good example of why you can't give too much power to fan voting.

I'm sure she survived the fall..
They really need to let you skip stuff like the sitting down/up animations.
