Wait, people are using soft cream and hard jam? This just gets worse the further down you go. Hard Jam is my new thing.

I have to be honest, and I realised this isn't very PC, but I'm not sure scones are all that great.
I need to do better I know 😔
edit: Actually no, sod being apologetic about it, the more I think about it the less I actually like scones.
They're inevitably dry and crumbly and in the pantheon of sweet treats, they're in the lower echelon. I think half the appeal is "afternoon tea" which is basically some nostalgia for the Way Things Used To Be.

Skawn. That's the correct way to pronounce it.
As in: "Are ya gonnae eat that skawn?"

Also, regardless of if the cream or jam is on first... Is there anyway to actually eat the fucking thing without getting sweet loveliness all over your face and up your nose? Also, if you've got facial hair, just forget about trying to eat it with any grace whatsoever.

No, you just have to commit. Or do what my daughter does and pull bits off the scone and cream and jam them individually.
Maximum effort for maximum coverage. Theres no toppings left in the pot when shes about.

pull bits off the scone and cream and jam them individually. Now we're getting somewhere. I'm going to run a simlulation of that later. I feel that could work.

No. It’s why I find all these comments about “spreading” the cream and jam so confusing. You just stick a great dollop of cream then jam on and mash it into your face. It’s how the queen does it.

I'll need to keep it in an ice bath but yeah, should be alright.

What about pre made Persil tablets containing both cream and jam you can just pop on a scone? If the Tide challenge taught me anything it’s that this is genius.

Wait, people are using soft cream and hard jam? This just gets worse the further down you go. This is my takeaway too and it's the first time I've put it together. Jam-first weirdos are using runny cream like absolute animals, and probably spread it with a pen knife or shiv

It's cream first obviously. Like you wouldn't put jam on toast first then butter. The viscosity of the cream allows it to permeate the inner linings of the scone allowing for a smoother surface for the jam to rest on and not blend in too much.
Enjoy!

I feel like a lot of the wrong opinions in this thread boils down to the wrong kind of cream being used, including not liking scones. The dryness of the scone is important to offset the delicious creaminess of the cream. But it has to be proper clotted cream. That shit is so good you don’t even really need the jam.

Pffft. The trick is to put the jam and cream in a blender, make a paste, heat it on the hob and then serve it on toasted scones.

I've always just spread some butter or margarine on mine, whichever's in the fridge.
They definitely taste nicer with jam and cream but not enough to go out and make me buy them.

Yeah me too, sometimes I replace the scone with bread and the jam with cheese and pickle.

What is the consensus on treacle scones?
I used to love a treacle scone but I haven't seen one in years.

I think so, pretty much - fruit-free, buttermilk scones.
