When doing my list I realised that the games I've played the most didn't even make it on there. CS 1.6, CS:GO, Civ 4-6, L4D2, Mario Kart, Binding of Isaac etc. are all games I've put hundreds of hours in but for whatever reason I wouldn't rank them in my top ten. I had the same thought with CS 1.6 and TFC but I think it's my memories of the time playing them rather than the games themselves that I think fondly of
They were both easy to play with high latency as well as you didn't need to predict your shots

Get fucked, Jak & Daxter are amazing. poor mans ratchet and clank innit They're both platform shooters I guess, but Jak was more platformy and more open world. Rachet more beating areas of enemies. I like R&C too though, and Insomniac are great too.

Fair points, but I'd argue its never been bettered and its still the perfect Metroidvania game (the term Metroidvania was invented off the back of SOTN). The Castle flip when you think you have beaten the game and you are only halfway through was also genuis. I play it once every few years and I can't find any fault in it at all. I agree about the inverted castle, although one complaint I have about that is that you have to enter bat mode all the time because everything's just 1 cm too high to jump on. That and the clogged up inventory with its tedious manual rearrangement of items. While I think it's still one of the best Metroidvanias (and imho better than Hollow Knight), imo Bloodstained is even better because it improves on it in many little ways. A much better inventory system with the ability to sell or dismantle items, the crafting system is a great fit for this game, the shard system taken from Aria of Sorrow is great too, and it works better as an action game thanks to more agile movement/combat mechanics. That's not to say SotN doesn't still has the edge in some aspects, most notably atmosphere. But overall, especially gameplay-wise, Bloodstained wins imo.

Super Mario Bros 2 Super Bomberman 2 Super Metroid Road Rash 2 Sonic 2 Link's Awakening Day of the Tentacle Sim City 2000 Theme Hospital Final Fantasy VII Goldeneye Unreal Tournament Burnout 3 Metal Gear Solid 3 Resident Evil 4 TimeSplitters 2 THPS 4 Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Online Only) Far Cry 2 Fez Minecraft Red Dead Redemption Spelunky Trials Evolution Dragon Quest IX Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 Wii Sports Xenoblade Chronicles Fire Emblem: Awakening The Last of Us Mario Kart 8 Breath of the Wild Splatoon 2 Rocket League Animal Crossing New Horizons Streets of Rage 4
I could definitely chop that up to a fraction of the size. In which case...
Mario Kart 8 Super Metroid Super Mario Galaxy 2 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Unreal Tournament

Incidentally, I actually rank the game in my avatar among the worst I've ever played.

THPS 4Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Online Only) Far Cry 2 Fez Minecraft Red Dead Redemption Spelunky Trials Evolution Dragon Quest IX Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 Wii Sports Xenoblade Chronicles Fire Emblem: Awakening The Last of Us Mario Kart 8 Breath of the Wild Splatoon 2 Rocket League Animal Crossing New Horizons Streets of Rage 4 I could definitely chop that up to a fraction of the size. In which case... Mario Kart 8 Super Metroid Super Mario Galaxy 2 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Unreal Tournament Now annoyed that I forgot about THPS 4! People always claim 2 or 3 to be the best, but 4 was it for me. Soundtrack was unreal and the new mechanics made for a way better local multiplayer session

Somehow forgot MK8 off the list.
Put me on the R&C defender list too, only beaten by Mario for me, I know it's not a true platformer but it's close enough.

THPS 4 easily the best in the series for me too.

I'll also say I preferred THPS4 to the earlier games. I preferred the more free roaming, zero time limit model, instead of the time limited runs of earlier games.

Never played it - dropped out at THPS3 (which felt a little worse than THPS2).

3 isn't quite as good as 2, but it was a cross gen game, so didn't add much besides maybe the revert? I do remember seeing it running on a PS2, having rinsed the second game on a PS1 and it looked amazing. But yeah, 4 was the best of the originals in my opinion. They should have taken a small break after that one. Not that Underground 1 is necessarily bad, but I think we were all getting rather fat and had our fill.

Can't remember the underground games, were those in a sandbox style?

I'm just flying randomly to places and dying, maybe reading some logs along the way. My impression was that that was more or less to be expected? I do remember that people were talking as if each of their attempts at solving the thing was pretty short. CS 1.6, CS:GO, Civ 4-6, L4D2, Mario Kart, Binding of Isaac etc. are all games I've put hundreds of hours in but for whatever reason I wouldn't rank them in my top ten. I have hundreds of hours in various ARPGs and I don't think I included anything back when the first thread was made. Except Diablo 2, but's that's mostly just for atmosphere and music. And nostalgia obviously.

The first Jak & Daxter is a solid N64-style platformer. Jaks 2 and 3 are lame Ratchet & Clank meet GTA hybrids. Although tbh, the PS2 trilogy of R&C wasn't great either. That series started to shine on PS3.
The best PS2 platformer was Sly Cooper.

Can't remember the underground games, were those in a sandbox style? A little more so, yeah. You can get off your board, walkaround and complete skating quests. It was just perhaps trying a little too hard.

The best PS2 platformer was Sly Cooper. Yep, the only PS2 platformer I finished, the rest had me bored after an hour. In underappreciated games talk, Sheep, Dog 'n' Wolf was probably my favourite platformer type game on PS1, but it was more of a puzzler I guess.

Anyone remember a titanic point and click game from the 90s? Been listening to a titanic history podcast and reminded me of it. Bloody loved it when I was a kid.
VR titanic game be horrendous. Not sure if that's been done

Yeah it was called Titanic: Adventure Out of Time, I heard a film podcast talk about it as a very formative game for one of the guests.
