I really need to watch someone physically play Hollow Knight in front of me, because I just don't understand how people get that far into the game without throwing the controller and playing something else.

Oh, I take should have included Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3.
The new additions I'm on the fence about are Control and Cyberpunk 2077. Need to see how I feel in a few years time

I can't believe I'm the only person who has put Symphony of the Night. Honestly - I think it's been eclipsed by the sheer amount/quality of Metroidvania's in recent years. I played SOTN for the first time a few months ago and thought it was a great game and it's held up really well for a 20+ year old game. However, I don't have any nostalgia for the game so I'd put something like Hollow Knight above it. If I'm being really honest with myself I also thought Dawn of Sorrow was the better Castlevania. Sacrilege I know! Fair points, but I'd argue its never been bettered and its still the perfect Metroidvania game (the term Metroidvania was invented off the back of SOTN). The Castle flip when you think you have beaten the game and you are only halfway through was also genuis. I play it once every few years and I can't find any fault in it at all.

In all honesty I thought the castle flip was clever but it felt like the weaker half of the game - there weren't enough new enemies or bosses and you were going through the same areas for a second time (albeit inverted). My opinion would probably line up with yours if I played it at the time of release. I'll give you this - the art style and music are still incredible and an absolute high point of the genre.

My list wasn't comprehensive, think I'd be here all day if that was the case. SotN wouldn't make the list though.

I never thought I'd see the day that Uncharted 1 made the list. After the initial 'oh this looks pretty' the game was crap, what next Heavenly Sword?

I've started this Outer Wilds that everyone and their cat was harping on about. It seems cool but I feel like I'm too stupid for it. I'm just flying randomly to places and dying, maybe reading some logs along the way. I'm assuming I need to figure out some way to fix things but there's just so much of everything everywhere.

Better than Uncharted 3 at any rate. 1&2 are far better than 3, which I rank the worst in the series.

Uncharted 1 was just a Gears of War/Tomb Raider hybrid with really bad shooting mechanics and a very basic by the book game design with identikit repeating enemies and areas. Very pretty (for time) graphics though. I fall in the ND are overrated camp though so take my view with a pinch of salt (I'm right on the shooting mechanics) Also Poochie... sorry I mean Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Dexter are crap too.

I only played Uncharted 1 in the remastered trilogy pack a few years ago and I thought it felt massively dated. As you say, the shooting sections were really basic and offering the worst of the cover shooter style in vogue when it was made (I find cover shooters terrible at the best of time). 2, 3 and 4 are all much better than the first one.

I don't find anything wrong with the shooting mechanics of UC1. But anyway, this is another debate for another thread.

I just enjoyed the whole package of Uncharted. The world/story/voice actors and characters/how it looked (graphics).
But yeah, I'd not be surprised if the mechanics of first game a bit dated now.

While I like them all, I think 1 suffers the most as its not quite as full on cinematic in its spectacle as the others, and the first three all have issues with enemies who seem to always know where you are and come at you with the determined ferocity of a standard wasp.
That 4 actually contained combat which could go back into stealth made things miles better.

When doing my list I realised that the games I've played the most didn't even make it on there.
CS 1.6, CS:GO, Civ 4-6, L4D2, Mario Kart, Binding of Isaac etc. are all games I've put hundreds of hours in but for whatever reason I wouldn't rank them in my top ten.

For anybody that had played Gears of War at the around the same time, the shooting mechanics were awful on Uncharted 1's release. Also I'm not a massive fan of Gears of War either
