Career mode is a big improvement compared to Dirt Rally 2. I miss the daily challenges though, I hope they get added further down the line.

GFX look decent on PS5. Not mind blowing but nice enough. Not had any tearing but have had a few pauses, but very short ones so hasn't affected any runs yet. I am using new gearshifter and handbrake and it's quite weird getting used to after using the paddle shifters and clutch for handbrake for a few years. I'm going to persevere and it'll be my excuse when i'm 5 minutes behind everyone else when I set up the first championship.  |

I dont have either if I'm downstairs on the Xbox, going back to pressing a button for handbrake normally ends with me changing view on accident.
Hopefully the patch they are talking about with shader compilation will make my pc version smooth and I'll be on the sim set up full time.

Had a blast on this last night. It really does come alive with the T300. Aside from whether it's actually realistic or has the pivot point in the correct place and all that stuff that people get angry about, it's a lot of fun. And i'm actually enjoying the career mode for once.
Couple of patches away from being 'finished' though of course, as with most new releases. Hope they can sort out the weird pauses and occasional framerate drops.
Also, assuming this is going to be a yearly release now, I do worry how much effort they're actually going to put into fixing the current release vs 'saving it for next year'. What's their track record with F1 on this?

Haven’t played the last 2 F1 games much, but I think they normally release in a pretty decent state? Certainly better than WRC.
I do like the game, and the essentials are there. But the graphics and resolution/frame rate issues are odd. At times it looks proper last gen, and early last gen too.
It’s not like they were under any particular pressure (publicly anyway) to release, they basically announced out of nowhere that it was coming in a few weeks. So you’d think they’d have had it ready?

It really does look very plain at times and the stutters- haven’t had a lot but had several times- are unforgivable. It’s a reaction game, with sometimes long stages, and it can all get fucked up right at the end when the game s t t t uuuu u t errr s into a 3 left.
While I don’t trust EA to fix things when they can just sell another game in 12 months time they *do* seem to want to launch this with a bit of fanfare, perhaps that’ll mean time is invested to finish the game and earn a bit of favourable momentum.

If it’s asphalt I will do about a third of it at a drunk snail’s pace before ending up in a ditch, rage quitting and sulking about the shite handling model, or the crappy physics, how the sun was in my eyes and that the dog ate my homework.

I'm in the club. Been playing the PS5 trial but spent most of it dialling in a wheel setting similar to how it feels in DR2 and I think I'm happy with it.
Having played this on the Series S it looks better on the PS5. Still had some textures pop in at the start pre patch but haven't noticed it since the patch.
The stutters I've found seem to really come into play towards the end of the stage's. Will forcing VRR helps with that?

From what I’ve read VRR helps with screen tearing, not sure it had much to do with stuttering?
Fwiw I’m on series x with a vrr tv, and not seen tearing. The stuttering tends to be in the same place on certain stages, the same part of the course and tends to be toward the end of the stage.
I feel like there’s been some pretty bad resolution drops on some stages too, albeit him concentrating so hard I don’t really notice at the time.
Not had a go since the patch though

Did a long Mexico stage last night, no stuttering at all whilst driving. One or two on the intro bit to the stage, but no biggie. Still a few rough edges overall but a much better experience.
Can’t vouch for any other stages

VRR should sort the tearing. I can’t remember seeing any on the PS5 akin to the stuff shown in some videos. The hitching though is an engine problem- you’re moving through environments and it’s loading the next “tile”. I think they can minimise it but not remove it completely then. I played yesterday and it did feel better, though had a couple of very slight ones.

The engine shift really feels like a mistake and I don’t buy the long stage reasoning. Or, perhaps, more charitably they’ve been added as a sop for the engine change. It’s not even UE5 with the benefits that would bring that would more easily justify the change. I think it’s with an eye to the yearly churn and cheaper development costs that’s typical of EA.
Ah well, what we have now is good, great at times. I’m not buying it again in 11 months time though 🤨

Had a brief go. Feels like more of the same from DR2, and that’s fine by me. Graphics are a little underwhelming so far, might just be the stage I did, but almost a step down from DR2. Replays especially. And zero trigger vibrations on my elite controller, but there’s an option for it in the settings so some kind of glitch I’m guessing Has the trigger vibrations on Xbox been fixed yet? I tried the trial on gamepass and was massively underwhelmed by the lack of feedback after playing WRC Generations and Forza. |

Yeah they are a bit weak. I tweaked them up past the 100 setting and it helped a bit, but they’re still not on a par with forza motorsport
Game has grown on me. I had internet woes so couldn’t talk lay FM, sunk a bit of time into wrc post patch, it’s a’ight

Event up, 5 stages of Finland in F2 kit cars, ends in 5 days. 4 short stages with plenty of fixing time and a medium length to finish.
DR2 let you set these up on the Web page but it's all ingame now.

I enjoyed that KD, great choice of cars. Twatted it up literally on the last few corners of the last stage and spent ages reversing and knobbing about trying to cross the line.would still have been third I think anyway. Don’t mind at all for stages… not a huge fan of the way tarmac feels in this game but will certainly put my big rally pants on and soldier through if needed  |
